Fifteen-year-old Alysha Koster was just one of the many members of the Green for Life Whalers Midget B hockey team to have a photo taken with Soo Greyhound alumnus Steve Sullivan today at the Essar Centre.

The former NHLer made a surprise visit to the team's practice thanks to Scotiabank and was a precursor to this weekend's Rogers Hometown Hockey tour at the Bondar Pavilion.

"It's a great opportunity for myself to come back and revisit the place where I enjoyed my junior hockey," Sullivan told media.

The Timmins native played two seasons with the Greyhounds, including 1992-1993 when the team won the Memorial Cup at home.

"That's a memory that I'll never forget and always cherish," he said. "The group of players we had was outstanding and it's great to be able to come back and enjoy it."

Although he downplayed his role when asked about the accomplishment, Sullivan was no slouch that season, scoring 63 points in 62 games.

The following year he went on to accumulate an impressive 113 points in 63 games with the Greyhounds.

After being drafted into the NHL by the New Jersey Devils in 1994, Sullivan would go on to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Nashville Predators, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Phoenix Coyotes.

He's now the player development coach for the Phoenix Coyotes.

Those wishing to have their own meet and greet with Sullivan are invited to the Bondar Pavilion this weekend as the Rogers Hometown Hockey tour celebrates our national game with live entertainment, prizes and giveaways, and games.

Sullivan will be on site and available on Saturday, February 28 from noon to 2 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.

On Sunday, March 1, Sullivan along with Darryl Sittler and Marty Turco will take part in the Scotiabank Hot Stove event.
