SAULT STE. MARIE SCIENCE FESTIVAL

*************************
A new community event, aimed at sparking an interest in science, is coming to Sault Ste. Marie this spring!

The Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival – the only festival of its kind in the area – kicks off its inaugural year this April 28 through to May 2, 2015.

The festival, for all ages, will offer an opportunity to celebrate science in a fun and welcoming setting.

The week-long event will highlight science, and technology through several activities including ARTIE (a student science and technology event), a Science Café, programs for seniors, a VIP event for Sault Science Professionals, an adult night event and a Family Science Carnival.

This morning the Honourable David Orazietti, Member of Provincial Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, and Mayor Christian Provenzano, joined the Festival partners as the partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival is a joint venture of Algoma University, Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Entomica, Invasive Species Centre, Sault College, Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and Science North.

“The Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival is a great event that not only educates but inspires future generations. Through hands-on activities for students, families, and seniors, the festival will engage a wide range of groups in a greater understanding of science. By sparking a child’s interest in science while they are young we can expose them to the possibilities of a science-related career, and help to strengthen the knowledge economy in Northern Ontario” - David Orazietti, MPP for Sault Ste. Marie

"I think it's great that this large group of community partners, including Science North, have come together to highlight the scientific research and initiatives happening right here in the City of Sault Ste. Marie. This festival will shine a much deserved spotlight on science and technology, the innovative careers available in these fields and the scientists who call our city home. I look forward to experiencing all that the Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival has to offer" - Christian Provenzano, Mayor, Sault Ste. Marie
