Join the discussion on community attraction at a Collaboration Café February 18

How can the community better attract and retain professional talent?

Members of the public are invited to come up with solutions and join the discussion at a Collaboration Café on Wednesday, February 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn and Suites.

Last November, Destiny Sault Ste. Marie and its community partners hosted the 2014 Greater Community Forum.

At the event, a number of topics were brought up as essential to the future success of the city.

Community attraction was one of the main areas of discussion.

The Collaboration Café, a forum where people share ideas and generate solutions, is now continuing the dialogue to begin implementing the projects identified.

“I am excited about the on-going community outreach efforts that have arisen from the 2014 Greater Community Forum,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. “I encourage all residents to explore these resources and offer their feedback, so that the momentum can continue to grow.”

The Collaboration Café on Community Attraction is being facilitated by Kevin Hemsworth, director of marketing and communications at Algoma University; and Susan Hunter, director of external relations at Sault College.

Another café on Social Innovation, is scheduled for February 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 180 Projects building on Gore Street.

Similar events are planned for March on the topics of downtown vibrancy and arts/culture.

The public can visit www.greaterssm.com to read about the forum presentations, Economic Indicator Report, and draft forum report and pledge involvement in future opportunities related to Sault Ste. Marie’s economic development.

Meanwhile, Destiny Sault Ste. Marie and its partners are now planning for the 2015 Youth Engagement Forum.

The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Machine Shop at Mill Square.
