Marriott, Delta agree to buyout

Marriott International announced this week that it has signed an agreement to buy out Delta Hotels and Resorts. Delta operates more than 38 hotels and resorts in 30 cities across Canada, including Delta Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront Hotel.

Delta operates more than 38 hotels and resorts in 30 cities across Canada, including Delta Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront Hotel.

The $168-million deal between Marriott and British Columbia Investment Management Corp. was announced Tuesday and is now subject to approval by the Canadian Competition Bureau.

If the purchase goes through, Marriott will be the largest full-service hotel company in Canada with 120 hotels and 127,000 rooms.

Marriott currently operates the Fairfield Inn and Suites Sault Ste. Marie.
