WAR AMPS

**************************
Being born missing part of his left hand hasn’t stopped Nikolaus Provenzano, 15, of Sault Ste. Marie, from living a full and active life.

In fact, he can do everything everyone else can do, sometimes with the help of a special device.

Nikolaus enjoys working out.

Thanks to support from The War Amps, he was recently fitted with a sports hand that enables him to do all types of athletic and weightlifting activities.

He is a member of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program and, as such, is eligible to receive financial assistance with artificial limbs and recreational devices.

Evelyn, Nikolaus’ mom, says the artificial hand is making a difference in her son’s life, “We are so proud of his positive attitude and ability to overcome obstacles.”

Nikolaus says he uses the device regularly to stay fit and healthy.

“The CHAMP Program is making it possible for me to achieve my fitness goals. It has also taught me that I can do anything, and to not be defined by my amputation.”

An avid hockey player, he also uses a device, which was funded by The War Amps, to hold onto a hockey stick.

The War Amps encourages Champs to develop a positive attitude towards their amputation, and live to their full potential.

“Nikolaus’ determination and zest for life is an inspiration to all,” said Danita Chisholm, Executive Director, CHAMP Program. “With the public’s support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service, we are happy to help young amputees like Nikolaus obtain the tools they need to enjoy some of their favourite activities.”
