It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carl Watson Slomke on Tuesday January 6, 2015 at the Sault Area Hospital at the age of 81 years.  
 
Watson is survived by his beloved wife Gladys (Nyman) and the late Charlotte (Meyers).  
 
Loving and proud father of Carla and stepfather of Linda, Fred and Doug.  
 
Son of the late Carl and Ethel Slomke.  
 
Beloved brother of Betty Beange (late Clifford) of Sudbury, Shirley Weese (late Norman) of Sault Ste. Marie and Wayne (Mary Lou) of Thunder Bay.  
 
Special uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.  
 
Watson worked as an operator for Ontario Hydro for 42 years, ending his career at the Rayner Dam.  
 
After his retirement in 1993 he became very active in local organizations including President of the Algoma-Manitoulin Progressive Conservative Association from 1995 to 2002 and mayor of Thessalon from 2001 to 2004.  
 
Watson was very community-minded and was a member of many organizations and lodges including the Lions Club, the Oddfellows and Rebekahs, the Curling Club and the Horticultural Society.  
 
The Town of Thessalon honoured him for his many contributions by naming him Senior Citizen of the Year in 2008. 
 
Friends may call at the Beggs Funeral Home, Thessalon on Saturday January 10, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  
 
Funeral service in the chapel on Saturday at 1 p.m.  
 
Spring interment in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Donations to the Algoma Manor Charitable Foundation gratefully accepted.  www.beggsfh.com

Members of the Oddfellows and Rebekahs, Thessalon are requested to assemble at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:30 for a memorial service for their late Brother Watson Slomke.

Members of the Thessalon Lions Club are requested to assemble at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:45 for a memorial service for the late Lion Watson Slomke.
