Second Annual Silver Creek Cup presented by Molson Coors raises $8500 for local youth

Silver Creek Golf Course located in Garden River recently held it's 2nd annual charity hockey tournament with this year's proceeds going to help local youth participate in the Little NHL hockey tournament this upcoming spring in Toronto.

The 5 day event in early December had 23 teams participate in 5 different divisions with players from Sault Ste Marie, Garden River and Blind River attending.

Over 250 players took part in the charity event held at the Rankin Arena.

In it's second year the Silver Creek Cup is hosted with the hopes of giving back to the community.

The 2013 event was a fundraiser for the Mackay family whose daughter Isabella had been diagnosed with leukemia earlier in the year.

Jamie Henderson, General Manager at Silver Creek, is eager to ‎continue such efforts in the coming years.

'We are fortunate to help out many causes and charities throughout the summer months but we thought why not help out during the long off season as well. To be able to host events such as the Silver Creek Cup and the Winter Classic over the winter months is a tremendous opportunity for us and we are very happy to help out the community who support us at the golf course.'

Over a span of 12 months Silver Creek supported by Rogers Radio has hosted 3 winter events including the 1st ever Winter Classic last February.

The tournaments have raised over $23,000 thanks to the participants and corporate communities of Garden River and Sault Ste Marie.

The tournament would like to thank all the many businesses who donated items for the raffle and to Subway restaurants, Palmer Construction, Great Lakes Power, RBC, Pepsi, 3m Trimline and Molson Coors for their generous support.
‎
The organizing committee would also like to send a special thank you to all the officials and time keepers who donated much of their time to assist in the event including Jill and Scott Raycroft, the staff at the Rankin Arena and to Chad Bouchard at the Soo Pee Wee Arena.

Next up for Silver Creek is the Little Ceasers Winter Classic February 15-16.

The event features 3 outdoor rinks built in the parking lot of the golf course with 4 on 4 hockey being played.

This year's event will assist children in need of being outfitted with new hockey equipment for the upcoming season and to send youth to the Fast by Fata hockey camp this summer.

Silver Creek golf course is an 18 hole facility located in Garden River, Ontario.
