Teen shooting victim in serious condition (charges laid, 7 photos)

1 p.m. - Police have issued the following release with further information and charges laid in last night's shooting:

A 15-year-old female victim has been hospitalized and is in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the face after a domestic related incident is believed to have occurred at a residence located at 169 Huron Street last night.

Shortly after 1 a.m. police were notified of a person attending hospital for gunshot injury.

An investigation commenced into how that injury was attained which led police to this address.

Investigators are on scene and expect to remain there throughout the day, possibly until tomorrow.

A 21-year-old male is in custody in relation to this matter after being arrested without incident away from the scene a short time after it occurred.

The accused is charged with the following offences; attempted murder, sexual assault, sexual interference, as well as several firearms related offences.

The accused will attend Sault Ste. Marie bail court today.

No further information will be released at this time.

Police have released little information so far about last night’s shooting, including where it took place.

The age of the female shot in last night's incident has not been released, though a number of social media posts identify the victim as a 15-year-old girl.

Police closed down the underpass area for a short period overnight for an ‘incident’ on Lyons Avenue between Carmen’s Way and Wellington Street West, though police have not confirmed a link between that incident and the shooting.

This morning officers can be seen combing an area around Huron and Albert Street.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police are currently investigating a shooting incident which occurred overnight in the central part of the city.

A 21-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending regarding this matter.

A female victim has been hospitalized and is in serious condition.
