The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA in partnership with Ontario Works and the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation, will be hosting its largest Community Hub holiday gathering yet.

Employment Solutions, proud partner of the Community Hubs, wishes to highlight the efforts of the Hub representatives in creating a special holiday experience for community members.

The exceptional good will and holiday spirit driving the event demonstrates exemplary commitment to building a sense of community.

A team of Hub representatives worked closely with co-op students from Sault College Social Service Worker program to organize a family holiday dinner celebration for 240 local residents.

The event has grown over the years and has been able to accommodate 60 additional guests compared to last year.

The team was overwhelmed with the response from local organizations and business whose generous donations allow them to provide pyjamas and a toy to every child in attendance.

The interest was so great that the hall capacity for the event on December 19 has been reached, and for this reason some interested guests, unfortunately, cannot attend.

“We hope to be able to still offer these children a pair of pyjamas and toy,” says key organizer, Leanne Latondress, Facilitator of the Second Line Hub. Interested guests are encouraged to get their tickets early next year.

Aladdin Carpet, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ontario Works and Superior Dodge deserve special recognition for their donations. Money and gifts were also donated by the following organizations:

Alfano Body Shop, Algoma Financial, Cali Nails, Child Care Algoma, Great Northern Retirement Home, Meadow Park Montessori School, Pepsi, Sault College, Employment Solutions, Solo Trattoria, St. John’s Anglican Church in Garden River, Station Mall, Walmart, Winners, and Women in Crisis.

Our apologies if we missed anyone, the response was overwhelming and to everyone who made personal donations we sincerely thank you.

The Community Hubs are a project of the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA in partnership with Ontario Works and the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation, and foster neighbourhood pride through programming at four locations in the city.
