SooToday received the following notice from Arthur Funeral Home regarding funeral arrangements for veteran and well-known volunteer Art Glassford:

*************************
Born April 26, 1921 in Beaverton, Ontario.  Passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the age of 93.

Predeceased by his loving wife Loyis Margaret having shared 69 years of wedded bliss.

Devoted father and friend of Maureen (Nick), Ginny (Ken), Colin (Lise), Heidi (David), Keith (Willo), Paul (Carin), Ian (Tatiana), Bruce (Stacey) and Jason (Larissa).  Cherished grandfather of Dylan, Aaron (Patti-Jo), David, Jessica, Spencer, Whitney, Jeni, Kati, Bailey, Connor, Sam, Moni, Jack, Duncan, Gabriella, Rory, Anna, Alyssa, Collin and great grandfather of Karmel.

Predeceased by his brother’s Jack and Bernard (Audrey).

His many nieces and nephews will fondly remember Art.

Art served the community of Sault Ste. Marie for almost 50 years; as a volunteer, a working liaison for government affairs and as a veteran of Canada’s Armed Services.

Art’s loyalty and devotion to his family was second to none.

His words of wisdom will be forever missed.

Dad’s life philosophy was based on the values of family, friendship and humour.

He shared his incredible intuition and wisdom with so many and brightened every event with his smile and clever wit.

His greatest joy was being with his children enjoying the simple things that make life so good; love, laughter and food.

Dad’s zeal for life, his strong presence, his wonderful sense of fun and his love for his beautiful wife will be remembered in our hearts.

He would not want us to mourn him for long, but to be strong and to live life to the fullest as he has.  Thank you Dad, for the wonderful memories.

A very private family service will be held.

Friends are invited to share in a come and go Celebration of Life at Dad’s grandson’s restaurant Chicago Cookshop (384 McNabb Street) from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm on Saturday, December 27, 2014.

Food trays may be delivered from 9 – 11.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to ARCH.

A special thank you to Dr. Jablanczy for all the years of dedication, and to Shelly, Pam, Sarah, Jessica and Carl for your wonderful care of our Father.

Expressions of comfort may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com
