There are now many more options for Sault area residents to fly south this winter season.

Porter Airlines recently partnered with JetBlue Airways to offer regional passengers 23 additional U.S. destinations to pick from.

Among the new stops are Orlando, Las Vegas, Tampa, Los Angeles, Fort Myers, Phoenix, Ft. Lauderdale and Puerto Rico.

“This is excellent news for area travellers,” said Terry Bos, CEO of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation (SSMADC), the non-profit organization that operates the local airport. “Our goal is to increase traffic at our airport by offering regional passengers as many options as possible, and this announcement will certainly help us achieve this objective.”

With the interline agreement, Porter passengers are able to connect with JetBlue flights year-round through Boston Logan International Airport.

And thanks to the partnership between the two airlines, bookings can all be done conveniently through www.flyporter.com.

“Porter’s connection with JetBlue opens up many new leisure and business destinations for our passengers,” said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. “It gives customers throughout the Porter network another choice when planning their trips.”

The SSMADC, along with the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation and City of Sault Ste. Marie, worked together to land Porter here in 2011.

The airline, which is based out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, now offers four flights per day from Sault Ste. Marie to downtown Toronto.
