The PSP program can contribute up to $1,500 to science and tech businesses

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) today announced funding available for SMEs (small to medium enterprises) through its Professional Services Program (PSP).

The PSP is geared toward qualified science and technology SMEs developing their own products and services, and interested in connecting with qualified professionals who can assist in the growth and competitiveness of their company.

The goal is that the services provided are new, and that the SME has had no prior advisory relationship with the professional.

The program will provide one-on-one consultation and assistance to those qualified within a professional domain.

This program provides up to $1,500.00 of professional services fees to eligible SMEs.

Services include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Accounting
  • Business Strategy
  • Commercial Law
  • Human Resources
  • Intellectual Property
  • Technology Development
“The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre has a number of ongoing funding programs available to SMEs within our community,” said Gerry Bugyra, Business Development Manager, SSMIC. “The PSP program provides a great opportunity for businesses to access professionals to accelerate their growth potential.”

Eligible applicants are considered growth-oriented and Canadian incorporated science or technology SMEs with fewer than 100 employees developing their own products and services.

The following is a list of examples of technical and business services considered eligible under the program.
  • Product optimization
  • Process development, analysis or optimization
  • Product testing
  • Market research
  • Marketing strategy development
  • Competitive analysis
  • Business strategy development
  • Development of strategic commercial agreements
  • Productivity enhancement analysis
  • Technical feasibility analysis
  • Intellectual property (IP) protection
  • Development of sales and distribution systems
The program is funded by the National Research Council Canada (NRC) through its Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).

This program encourages clients to work with both SSMIC and NRC-IRAP to accelerate growth and achieve increased profitability.

A number of local small businesses have benefited from the PSP, seeking legal, intellectual property and business strategy advice. Veracity Asset Management, Insightworks Learning and Development, Digital Grounds and SafetyLynx have all participated in the PSP program.
