NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE
POLICE SERVICE

*************************
On Wednesday, November 26 the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be hosting Project Blue Light at the Bethel Bible Chapel at 686 Black Road, Sault Ste. Marie from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Project Blue Light honours all officers who have been killed in the line of duty, who have passed away due to illness or mishap, as well as retired officers who have passed away in the past year.

Project Blue Light was started in 1988 in Philadelphia by Dolly Craig after her son-in-law was killed in the line of duty.

She placed a blue light in her window during the holiday season to honour her fallen son-in-law.

Since that time Project Blue Light has grown nationwide and this is the fourth year the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is participating in special event.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service encourages all law enforcement friends, families and law enforcement agencies to decorate in blue lights for the coming holiday season.

Project Blue Light was introduced to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service when our Honour Guard was invited to participate by Project Blue Light organizers in Bay City, Michigan.

By placing one blue light in a window of your home you will show your support for officers killed in the line of duty and for those who continue to serve and protect our community.

Guest speakers this will include Chief Robert Keetch of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Sergeant Michael Wreggitt of the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police Detachment.

Agencies participating include the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police Service, the Anishinabek Police Service, the Sault Ste. Marie Michigan Police Department, U.S Border Patrol and the Ministry of Natural Resources.

The ceremony itself is open to the media and the public.
