Algoma University celebrated the graduation of 40 students from its Brampton extension this past weekend at the Fall 2014 Convocation Ceremony, held at the Brampton Golf Club.

University President Dr. Richard Myers conferred degrees on students who have completed the requirements of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program, as well as the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs in Computer Science.

Since the last Fall Convocation ceremony in Brampton in 2012, 40 students have successfully completed their chosen degree at Algoma U’s Brampton extension.

"Our programming in Brampton, St. Thomas, and Timmins has provided university opportunities for students in their own backyards, without the additional expense of relocating to go to school,” said Dr. Myers. “We welcome these students to attend our larger Convocation ceremony in Sault Ste. Marie, but we recognize that this is an occasion students want to celebrate with family and friends. This is a great day for our students, and for the City of Brampton.”

Abdulaziz Md. Ghani was the recipient of the Convocation Award, presented to the graduating student with the highest overall academic achievement.

Susan Crawford, Chair of the Brampton Board of Trade, was this year’s Honourary Speaker, and delivered a special convocation address to all in attendance.

Also present were University Registrar David Marasco, as well as faculty members from the Department of Business and Economics.

Currently, over 120 students are studying at Algoma U at Brampton.
