NEWS RELEASE

DAVID ORAZIETTI, MPP

*************************
I am shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic events in Ottawa yesterday.

My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of Corporal Nathan Cirillo, the brave soldier who gave his life standing guard for the principles of freedom and liberty.

He was a shining example of the best Canada and Ontario has to offer, and we as a country are mourning his loss.

My thoughts and prayers also go out to those injured, and all those who remained trapped in fear during the traumatic attack.

My heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes out to Kevin Vickers, Parliament’s Sergeant-at-Arms.

Your actions yesterday were an example of bravery, courage and public service in the face of terror and serve as an inspiration to us all.

As our Premier said yesterday, “the people who are using violence to undermine democracy want us to be silenced… And we refuse to be silenced.”

We must not let those who would use fear, intimidation and violence against us triumph.

We as a country, as a province, and as a community continue to promote the ideals of freedom, democracy and tolerance in the face of this terrible event.
