NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF SAULT STE MARIE

**************************
Flags at City facilities will be lowered to half-mast as a result of yesterday’s tragedy in Ottawa that involved the shooting death of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, a reservist on guard at the National War Memorial.

“Out of respect for Cpl. Cirillo and his family and the price that they have paid to defend Canada’s democracy and all of the freedoms that we enjoy, all City flags be flown at half-mast until the day of Cpl. Cirillo’s funeral,” said Joe Fratesi, City of Sault Ste. Marie CAO.

“Our thoughts and prayers over the next several days go out to the Cirillo family and to the families of those who were injured in yesterday’s attack, as well as to the families of those soldiers involved in Monday’s attack in Quebec.”

“All behalf of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, we are deeply saddened by the events that took place in our nation’s capital yesterday – I join the rest of the country in offering condolences to the Cirillo family who have lost a loved-one,” said Mayor Debbie Amaroso.
