THESSALON – A paramedic with Algoma District Paramedic Services was honoured recently at the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs (OAPC) annual awards gala in London, Ontario.

Paramedic David Timeriski, who works out of the service’s Elliot Lake station, was awarded the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal on September 25, 2014.

The award was presented on behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston by OAPC Honourary Chief Major-General Richard Rohmer.

The Exemplary Service Medal is part of the Canadian Honours System and the Governor General’s Awards and recognizes people who work in high-risk professions that enhance Canada's public safety through long and outstanding service.

The award, considered to be among the highest honours for paramedics in Canada, was created in 1994 to recognize the meritorious service of long-serving members of the paramedic profession.

It recognizes those individuals who have performed their duties in an exemplary manner, characterized by the highest standards of good conduct, industry and efficiency.

“On behalf of the Algoma District Services Administration Board, I wish to congratulate David on his award and thank him for his dedicated service to the people of the Algoma District and its visitors,” said Chief Henry Alamenciak.
