Police continue to probe shooting (updated, 5 photos)

Police say this morning that officers continue to investigate last night's shooting, but few details are available at this stage.

1 a.m. update

The following is a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service:

Police Call to Wellington St. East and Gore St.

On the 23rd of October 2014 City Police received a call in regards to a shooting at a residence in the area of Wellington Street East and Gore Street in the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

Police located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to hospital and is presently in serious but stable condition. 

Police are searching for three suspects.

They are described as:

12:55 update: Reports from witnesses at the scene indicate the possible shooting may have been drug related.

At about 11:45 police concluded a search of a residence on the corner of Hughes and Albert Streets.

As they were leaving a woman came out behind them screaming loudly.

"See, I told you there was no one here," she said. "What are you going to do about the stuff you broke? That was from my dead boyfriend Trevor." 

At about 12:15 a police squad car backed into the driveway at 28 Wellington East and a Sault Ste. Marie Police Service forensic van arrived and parked on the street in front of that address. 

There is police tape running along the north side of Wellington Street East from Francis Street to the parking lot of a car dealership on the corner of Wellington and Gore Streets.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service say a release will be issued soon. 

Original story 12:21 a.m. SooToday.com has received several reports of a shooting and possible manhunt in the vicinty of Albert Street East and Hughes Street on Wednesday night.  

One or possibly two people were reportedly shot at a house on Wellington Street East, near the house in which Wesley Hallam was murdered in 2011.

Residents in the Albert, Gore, Wellington and Hughes Street area have been told by police to stay indoors while SWAT teams, the Police Service's BATT armoured vehicle, and the K9 unit comb the area for an apparent suspect.

These reports are unconfirmed and SooToday is working to get information from the SSMPS.
