Roads re-opened after gas leak

City police indicate that roads closed this morning due to a natural gas leak on Elliot Road have now been re-opened. Fire officials have notified media that it is now safe for people evacuated to return to their homes .

Road Closures Due to Gas Leak

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is asking motorist to avoid the area of Elliott Road and Rossmore Road.

Shortly after 10:30 am this morning Sault Fire Services contacted the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service requesting assistance with traffic control in this area due to a possible gas leak.

Emergency crews from Fire and Police Services as well as the PUC and local gas companies are on scene.

No traffic is being allowed eastbound on Rossmore Road at Farwell Terrace or westbound on Elliott Road. 

Officers have the following intersections closed:  Elliott Road at Rossmore Road, Hill Street at Johnson Avenue, Peoples Road at Elliott Road and Farwell Terrace at Rossmore Road
