Debates for mayor and council candidates from all six wards will take place next week and we'll be bringing you live video from each of the seven planned debate sessions.

Our sister site, LOCAL2.ca, has teamed up with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, Algoma Univeristy and Shaw TV to bring you four days of debates starting Monday.

Sault Ste. Marie – The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce will partner with Algoma University, SHAW TV and Local2.ca to host municipal election forums for each ward, as well as the mayoral race.

These forums will be held in Council Chambers at the Sault Ste. Marie Civic Centre and will be televised live on SHAW TV Cable 10, while simultaneously streaming live on LOCAL2.ca.

The dates and times for the upcoming election forums are:

Monday, October 6, 2014

  • 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Mayoral Candidates Forum

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

  • 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. - Candidates Forum for Ward 1
  • 8:15 p.m. - 9:45 p.m. - Candidates Forum for Ward 2

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

  • 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. - Candidates Forum for Ward 3
  • 8:15 p.m. - 9:45 p.m. - Candidates Forum for Ward 4

Thursday, October 9, 2014

  • 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. - Candidates Forum for Ward 5
  • 8:15 p.m. - 9:45 p.m. - Candidates Forum for Ward 6

A moderator will conduct the forum together with two question screeners and two panelists who will pose questions submitted from a Chamber member survey and from Algoma University, along with written questions from those in attendance from that evening's audience as well as questions submitted from the home viewing audience via social media. 

Questions will be posed on an alternating basis.

Each candidate will have the opportunity to answer all questions asked.

Individuals attending as part of the audience for any of the forums should note that election campaign materials will not be permitted.

There will be no posters, signage, brochures or any type of electioneering allowed anywhere within or outside the Civic Centre.
