**************************
PUC water customers are reminded that the Unidirectional Flushing (UDF) Program is continuing in the east end of the city.

Customers are encouraged to visit the PUC website at www.ssmpuc.com for regular updates and to see a map(s) of the flushing area.

The east end UDF flushing area for the week of September 29 to October 10 will be in the area generally bounded by Pim Street to Pine Street and Wellington Street East to Queen Street East.

Additionally, the PUC would like to advise residents along Northern Avenue between Sackville Road and Great Northern Road that PUC crews will be in the area Monday morning (September 29) to perform a hydrant flow test.

During the hydrant flow test there is a possibility, some residents within the area could experience discoloured water.

The test is scheduled between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Customers are reminded that during any flushing activity, there is a high probability some customers outside of the flushing area could also experience discoloured water, potentially up to several kilometers away.

This is due to the fact that any time there is a major change in the rate or direction of flow of water in the distribution system, sediment in the watermains can be disturbed and carried along with the water.

The UDF Program is performed in order to remove sediment from within the city’s watermains and is a recognized industry best practice for improving water quality.

Hydrant flow testing is required to ensure hydrants are functioning properly.

The test involves a complete physical check of the hydrant as well as the discharge of water.

PUC Services apologizes for this inconvenience.
