SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. – Lake Superior State University is inviting high school students and parents to its annual “Fall Fling,” an open house that highlights what the university has to offer, while giving prospective students a feel for what it is like to be a Laker.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, and concludes mid-afternoon.

Often combined with LSSU’s Great Lake State Weekend in the past, Fall Fling will held on a separate weekend this year.

Registration is open until September 25, although after that date, students and families are still encouraged to attend as walk-in participants, without formal registration.

A confirmation and further information is sent to all registrants.

"During the open house, prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to experience LSSU firsthand through a variety of activities that encompass several aspects of the LSSU experience," said Michelle Markstrom, assistant director of LSSU Admissions. "Additionally, we will be waiving all application fees for students who submit their applications for admission during the event."

Students and parents will kick off their visit with a welcome session in the Arts Center, where they will hear from LSSU President Tom Pleger and LSSU Student Government President Doug Jones, a finance and economics major from Cheboygan.

Prospective students will receive information on the admission process and financial aid, and will have an opportunity to ask questions of a student panel.

After the welcome session, students and families will head for lunch, allowing them a chance to talk with current students, staff, and faculty in a relaxed, informal environment.

Following lunch, academic showcases will be presented by department faculty, chairs and deans, who will provide information and answer questions on the many academic programs offered at LSSU.

Guided campus tours, and tours to the LSSU Aquatic Research Laboratory and to the LSSU Nursing Simulation Lab will be offered during the afternoon.
