My eight-year-old grandson Jack Cardiff and his dad, Jeremy Cardiff (originally from the Sault), will be running a half Marathon in Thunder Bay on Sunday.

That is 21.1 kilometres, which is more than 52 laps around a track or 38 CN Towers or 231 football fields.

My mother (Leone Orr) and I are travelling to Thunder Bay to support him, so four generations will be watching!

He is dubbed the Orange Rocket.

Jack is running for Camp Quality, Thunder Bay.

At Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario, we believe in improving the quality of life for children living with cancer, and for their families.

We help them to find joy and hope through the healing power of laughter and optimism, shared experiences and ongoing support.

The 5th annual Miles with the Giant Marathon will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2014 and features a marathon of 26.2 miles, a half marathon of 13.1 miles, 10K and 5K races, and a series of associated events.

The course will combine urban, park and residential settings with the beauty of Lake Superior's shoreline.
