Essar Steel Algoma Executives Take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO – In a literal ‘outpouring’ of support for ALS sufferers, today Essar Steel Algoma executives honoured the challenge posed to them yesterday by USW Local 2251 president Mike DaPrat.

Today at precisely 4:30 pm, Pramod Shukla, Chief Operating Officer, Mark Nogalo, Vice President Operations, Navneet Shankar, Vice President Procurement and Jim Rennie, Vice President Human Resources took the ALS ice bucket challenge.

Prior to being doused COO Pramod Shukla shared a few remarks, “We are hopeful that the monies raised to date, which we understand to be in excess of USD $108 million, will serve to find a cure, or at the very least, better treatments to prolong the lives and ease the suffering of ALS victims and their families. I am pleased to advise we have all elected to personally make a donation to ALS, including our CEO Kalyan Ghosh who is traveling at the moment and could not be here in person. The company has generously agreed to match our contributions.”

In recognition of the official end of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Campaign, the Essar executives elected to ‘call out’ every Essar Steel Algoma employee to pledge their support to the United Way during the company’s fall campaign, targeting an unprecedented 100% participation rate.
