OLG Casino proceeds support Sault Area Hospital Capital Costs

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to acknowledge that a portion of the city’s share of 2013 OLG Casino Sault Ste. Marie revenues have been donated to offset capital costs for the Sault Area Hospital.

The 2013 Casino proceeds of $1,311,038 enabled a $1 million contribution to the Hospital with the balance being allocated to Police and Fire costs.

“This donation, and the ones before it, has been instrumental in building necessary infrastructure to support our community. I am proud of the positive relationship we have built with our local OLG Casino and their head office. Our new hospital is a state of the art facility that our community can take pride in. Thank you to OLG for your continuous support to both our local economy and local health care system,” said Debbie Amaroso, Mayor of Sault Ste. Marie.

“OLG is proud to be a vital part of Sault Ste. Marie for 25 years,” said Tom Marinelli, OLG’s Acting President & CEO. “The city’s use of its share of the gaming revenue to support the hospital is outstanding and will benefit the residents of the Sault for decades to come. We appreciate the contribution of our casino and head office employees in making life in the Sault that much richer and we look forward to continuing our support for the city.”

“The OLG has a significant footprint in our community as an employer and the organization supports important investments that reflect the priorities of residents,” said David Orazietti, MPP Sault Ste. Marie. “Revenue generated from gaming is continuing to contribute to the high quality of life we enjoy in Sault Ste. Marie, and this year’s investment in our local hospital will help improve access to health care in our city.”

Operated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, OLG Casino Sault Ste. Marie was Northern Ontario's first full-time casino when it opened in 1999. To date, Sault Ste. Marie has received more than $23.1 million in slot machine revenue for hosting OLG Casino Sault Ste. Marie.

The city has allocated $1 million per year from its share of slot revenues towards funding the new hospital – a thirteen year commitment ending in 2014.
