New candidate files nomination for Ward 4

LUKE DUFOUR, WARD 4 CANDIDATE

A new candidate has filed his nomination for Ward 4.

On Friday, August 22, local small business manager Luke Dufour filed his papers with the city clerk to run for Ward 4 city councilor in the upcoming municipal election.

Dufour was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie where he graduated Algoma University with his BA honours in English and history.  

After living abroad for two years, Luke returned home to help start and manage JL Builders, a local custom home building company.

“I am proud to be a member of the next generation who made the decision to return home to Sault Ste Marie to live, work and invest. With hard work and a commitment to work together, our city can continue to grow as an attractive destination for both new and homegrown talent.”

This past year council’s lack of critical, creative thinking resulted in taxpayers paying more for services than was necessary.

The Esposito field Pump Track could have received monies from the Ontario Trillium Fund, but councilors did not work with community organizers to meet application deadlines.  

The Churchill branch of the Public Library could be relocated to a new, properly designed space within the Rhodes complex, while keeping Chilly Willy’s open, but councilors instead voted to close a local small business to make way for an expensive renovation.  

With strong, creative direction Dufour’s platform will focus on forward-thinking decisions, balanced budgets, low taxes and quality infrastructure.  

“I want to see council play a stronger role in helping city staff develop creative solutions to manage costs while maximizing services.”

As a student, Dufour was a founding member of the Algoma University Student’s Food Bank and today volunteers at St Vincent’s Place through St Matthews Anglican Church.  

Luke has stayed active in the University community as a host parent for International exchange students.

Luke Dufour will bring a fresh new voice to city council, one that is inspired to give back to the community who gave him so much and shaped by the daily realities of hard work in the construction industry.
