Students in Sault Ste. Marie, along with thousands of others across the country, gained valuable skills and work experience this summer through Canada Summer Jobs, today announced Bryan Hayes, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, on behalf of the Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State for Social Development.

“Through Canada Summer Jobs, we are helping to equip young Canadians with the skills and experience they need to get jobs now and prepare for the workforce of tomorrow. By creating jobs for youth in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada Summer Jobs helps students, employers and our local economy. It is a win-win-win situation,” said Bryan Hayes, MP for Sault Ste. Marie.

Canada Summer Jobs helps students gain the skills and experience they need to be successful, now and in the future.

This year, Canada Summer Jobs created approximately 35,000 jobs for students, including 168 positions equaling $381,770 in Sault Ste. Marie for 2014.

Youth benefitted from jobs in a variety of areas, such as recreational leadership, tourism, sales, agriculture, maintenance and business, with not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses across the country.

These jobs provided students with tangible experience and money for the upcoming school year, while also helping employers address skills shortages.

“Creating summer jobs for students benefits not only youth and employers, but also local economies across the country. Canada Summer Jobs is yet another excellent example of how our government is creating jobs and economic growth," said The Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State (Social Development).
