NEWS RELEASE
On July 28 a male entered a sporting goods store in the Station Mall and attempted to leave the store without paying for a baseball hat.
He returned the hat but continued to shop, entering a change room and ripping tags off of an Addidas hoodie.
Mall security was called and the male fled the store and after a brief foot chase, two security officers apprehended the male.
The accused, however, became assaultive and began kicking and punching the security officers and eventually escaped to a residence in the 700 block of Wellington Street East where he was later arrested by city police.
Once at the station, after getting out of the rear seat of the police cruiser, the accused decided to run again, this time out into Second Line.
He was apprehended again after a short foot pursuit and brought back to the station to be booked in.
23-year-old Jordan Paim of Dacey Road has been charged with 2 counts of assault, theft under $5000, escape custody and one count of breaching a condition of his probation order which required him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
He will be appearing in Bail Court later this morning.
