Family saves flying squirrel found in toilet

SooToday.com received the following story and photos from loyal reader Debbie McLean about the shocking discovery she made in her toilet last night.

Had to share this story tonight only because it is seriously unbelievable.  

We caught a flying squirrel in our toilet this evening!  

We went to the washroom and flushed the toilet, heard some splattering and up came this. 

At first we thought it was a rat.  

After calling my husband (who was working at the fire department tonight), I asked him what I should do.  

After about 15 minutes it looked like he had drowned, so I lifted him out of the toilet and put him in a box.  

We realized then that it wasn't a rat... we actually thought it was a chinchilla.  

My husband arrived and the fire department gave him oxygen and he started to twitch, it was crazy.  

After about 15 minutes of oxygen, we brought him back in the house and heated him up with a blowdryer for about 1 1/2 hours, as he was hypothermic and still not showing good signs.  

Miraculously after about an hour he started showing signs of life.  

We then realized that it was a flying squirrel.  

We are going to keep an eye on him for a few days and decide what to do with him.
