Stunt driving leads to impaired charge

Tuesday, July 08, 2014   by: Staff

BLIND RIVER – On July 5, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. an officer from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Highway 17 in Serpent River when they observed a westbound motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed.

The officer confirmed the speed using radar as 152 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

The motorcycle was stopped and when the officer was speaking with the driver it was determined he had been consuming alcohol.

Based on the officer’s investigation the diver was arrested for impaired driving.

Charged is 49-year-old Barton Robert CRANDALL of Lamont, Alberta.

He is charged with stunt driving, impaired operation of a motor vehicle and being over 80 mgs.

He is schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on September 4, 2014.

The OPP wants to remind everyone not to drink and drive.

Since the beginning of June, officers from the East Algoma Detachment have charged 12 people with impaired driving along with two three day licence suspension for registering a warn.

If you drink, don’t drive.
