Entomica, Sault Ste. Marie’s new, and already well-loved, interactive insectarium, will celebrate its official opening, and announce new extended summer hours, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday July 2, 2014, at 2 p.m.

You are invited to join local politicians and tourism industry experts for this ribbon cutting event!

The celebration will take place at 35 Canal Drive, where Entomica shares a space with the new Mill Market (right before you cross the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario locks).

Particularly great for a family outing, Entomica is a place where visitors can discover the fascinating, hidden and often misunderstood world of insects through live interactive displays.

The immersive exhibits create unique hands-on experiences for visitors of every age and background.

Guests are guided by helpful and knowledgeable staff, whose enthusiasm and love of insects is palpable.

John Dedes, leader of the Entomica venture, is enthused about the public’s response so far, explaining how "insects possess an outstanding ability to create a spark of curiosity that will lead to a passion for lifelong learning and discovery”.

It is clear in his voice that he loves the work he does.

You may have been bugging-out already at Entomica.

During the past month, Entomica has hosted birthday parties and regular weekly school groups, and has been open to the public during Mill Market hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

After the July 2 ribbon cutting, Entomica will be open with full-time hours from Tuesdays – Sundays (closed Mondays).

Lily & Claudia’s Ice Cream Parlor, another new addition to the Mill Market space, will have full-time hours to match those of Entomica, so you can mix ice cream and insects, so to speak.

Choose from six delicious flavors, made with real cream from Sault Ste. Marie’s own Lock City Dairies.

Edible insects are only added upon sincere request, of course.

Whether it’s your first time or your seventh time, come freak out, find out, and bug out with the wonderful Entomica team on July 2.
