Out and about with Brad and the boys (13 photos)

Monday, June 16, 2014   by: Donna Hopper

Back in January of this year, a local group that includes SooToday.com, Local2.ca, Riversedge Developments, and the Mill Market took part in and won a fundraising auction.

Up for grabs was an entire day making the boys of Team Jacobs do whatever was commanded of them.

Saturday, June 14 was the day we chose to bring our Olympic gold medalists to a variety of locales to meet the community.

The day with Team Jacobs began at the Mill Market, then it was off to Wacky Wings' Great Norther Road location for lunch.

We returned the boys to the Mill Market where they were kept busy scooping ice cream at Lily and Claudia's Ice Cream Shoppe.

Following that, the four strapping lads enhanced their skill set with some instruction in crochet and knitting for the Art Gallery of Algoma's Family Day yarn bomb project.

The day wrapped with Team Jacobs selling fresh produce at the farmers' market portion of the Eat Algoma Local Food Festival.

Pictured: Team Jacobs meets a young fan at Wacky Wings on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Village Media, Riversedge Developments and Mill Market 'bought’ Team Jacobs as part of a fundraiser to help the boys bring their families along for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

That's weird, horse, it took you longer to bitch than it would've to read all one hundred words of the article.
horseguy001 6/16/2014 8:10:05 PM Report

Are you that naive?? Do you really think they show up for free?
Milhouse van Houten 6/16/2014 8:16:08 PM Report

They didn't charge anything. The group of investors bought them for the day during a fundraising auction. Pretty sure that's outlined in the beginning of the article...
horseguy001 6/16/2014 8:24:58 PM Report

Fact is someone paid for there appearance. After they you people supported them you think they cold give back with out charging. Just say in...beside who care about curling..lol

If you had read the earlier story, Team Jacobs was auctioned off earlier this year so that they can try to raise money to bring their families to the 2014 Sochi Olympics. If I was an athlete, such as them, I would want to have my family with me also. I find no fault here, but that is just my opinion.
As for the knitting, that would have been funny to see.
superior87 6/16/2014 8:38:21 PM Report

Wow horseguy, you're so off base it's not even amusing.
Prrrrrrr 6/16/2014 9:49:45 PM Report

horseguy001 you're a goof!!!
horseguy001 6/16/2014 10:07:10 PM Report

Really? They win a medal then charge people to show up at an event? who's the goof?
Jimssm 6/16/2014 10:12:48 PM Report

Horsey...

They're not charging anything.

They don't make a penny on this.

Their services for a day were auctioned off to raise money for a good cause.
horseguy001 6/16/2014 10:18:05 PM Report

How stupid are you people?? of course they making money. I bet you guys believe reality TV shows are real?
Pakadeva 6/16/2014 10:20:31 PM Report

Horse, please try reading the first few lines & to make it easy, here they are.
Could you possibly have said something positive about SSM athletes? Obviously not! READ:

Horeguy your jelousy and ignorance are so evident in every post that you make. You are obviously too lazy to have ever exerted 1% of the time, energy and commitment that these young men have dedicated to their sport. Olympic Gold Metalists, you have no idea what an amzing accomplishment that is. Congratulations Team Jacobs and thank you for sharing your accomplishments with us.
Jimssm 6/17/2014 7:25:50 AM Report

I'm not sure why I'm bothering answering.... but...

Horsey..

The auction took place BEFORE the Olympics even happened. BEFORE they won medals. Every Canadian athlete needs to fundraise to get to the Olympics. This money was paid long before they went.

As far as Curling being 'athletic'.. if athletic means huff and puff...no. Lots of Olympic sports don't meet your definition. Ski jumping, bobsled, luge, all the snowboard stuff, all the acrobatic skiing. ...and that's just winter. There's lots of skill involved in those.

And one more thing... anytime you want to compare notes as to what others have done 'for the rest of the world', I'm available.
horseguy001 6/17/2014 7:43:22 AM Report

Well Jim.. 25 year vet of the forces here. All 25 over seas. I did my share. all the sports you mentioned are huff and puff. Hell when I curled i was drank more beer than any thing...( uhmmm Beer drinking the next Olympic sport) Hell I am in...And i wont charge a dime for my appearance..lol
TFinn 6/17/2014 7:48:19 AM Report

horseguy001

The funds did not end up in their hands ...it was a fundraiser ...the money went to a needey cause ..why are you being so thick on this point.
statusquo 6/17/2014 7:51:04 AM Report

I am never tired of reading "sootoday"...one never knows what some idiot might say next.

horseguy001 6/17/2014 7:03:23 AMReport

"Jealousy and ignorance?? none of the above."

- Really?...then why did you bother posting? And btw, "None" should have been capitalized.

"Big friggen deal (comma) they won a medal in a sport that has no athletic challenge in it. "

-Really?....did you try it?

"Fact is they charge money for an appearance and that is wrong on any level."

-I am a bit skeptical of your alleged
"facts".

"You have you opinion I have mine. Whats next? the dart team from reggies go to the Olympics....lol".

-I doubt it. How about... -Who is the biggest idiot- contest between you and "steelworker".

And btw, "your", "what's (apostrophe), "The" (capitalization after a period), "Reggie's", and "lol" is only used by people who are not funny, teenagers and garded variety idiots that tend to laugh at their own jokes when nobody else will.

"You people need a new hero. How about getting off your butts and go to Iraq and help stop ISIS on there rampage?? oh wait.. you only care about 4 non-athletes and not the rest of the world....."

-Go to Iraq? Nice segue and totally disconnected from the topic at hand. Are you for real?

Btw, "THEIR"(possessive) rampage over "THERE"(a place, location)

TFinn 6/17/2014 7:51:33 AM Report

ooops .."needy"
horseguy001 6/17/2014 7:55:16 AM Report

Well call them and ask to appear. You will see what they charge. For the record I can really care less what they did, when they did it or that they charge for there time. All i know is post things to see what kind of response I get, thanks for entertaining me.. and yes curling is not a sport its a friggen pass time sport
statusquo 6/17/2014 7:58:47 AM Report

"thanks for entertaining me"

No! Au contraire.... Thank you!
