Old or young , it just does not sink in, that driving drunk is against the law and societys expectations. Until the justice system sees this as a crime and not "just one of those things" that is tolerated this will continue. I firmly believe that if you lose your licence you lose the vehicle you are driving at the time of the offence for the same period of time your licence is suspended. If you are transporting an illegal substance you can lose the vehicle as proceeds of a crime, why not a drunk??

Keep making those phone calls everyone,
you could be saving a life or lives.
crashed13 6/15/2014 10:16:40 AM Report

If I called in everyone I seen that made a idiotic move while driving I would need the Police on speed dial.
Big Den 6/15/2014 10:17:01 AM Report

What needs to be done is you have to do community service wearing a sign on the back stating I am a drunk driver. 2 years loss of licence and if you get caught driving while disqualified loss of licence for a further 5 years as well as 6 months.

patlen 6/15/2014 11:16:04 AM Report

Well Ed, it was about time! You've been talked to about drinking and driving on countless occasions and chose to ignore the consequences, now you are facing them. Shame on you for putting innocent people at risk and you are very lucky no one was hurt. Look at where you were coming from last night, real friends don't let friends drink and drive. Maybe it's about time to scrutinize who your real friends are. You now have the opportunity to utilize that lifetime bus pass you have. Again, shame on you and don't think you'll receive any sympathy!
Hatch 6/15/2014 11:22:00 AM Report

It sounds like people are doing their part in getting these drivers off the road. Many of these arrest are as a result of concerned citizens.
Javaman 6/15/2014 11:28:58 AM Report

Why do these drunks refuse to take the breathalizer test? When they go to court they will not get off because they refused the test.
Tag33&1/3rd 6/15/2014 11:55:36 AM Report

No reason for it! I just don't understand why people think they are "good enough to drive" when it's 1 drink-1 sip or 10. Shouldn't even have a sip and drive! Goes for pot smokers and pill poppers too! Wake up!
tommy_boi07 6/15/2014 12:04:54 PM Report

For the amount all of the advertising and education to prevent impaired driving is geared towards young people, there seem to be a lot more older people getting caught. Four people over the age of 30 in one weekend, not one young person. Maybe it's time to re-evaluate these tactics?
irishfey 6/15/2014 12:13:48 PM Report

62 and 73 ??? Good grief!! I thought the older you became the smarter you were,, guess not,, Shame on you both!!!
Corr 6/15/2014 12:45:30 PM Report

Couldn't agree more Jade.....one and done - no second chances !!!
Driving is a privilege not a right
tommy_boi07 6/15/2014 6:57:37 PM Report

Make that 5 people over 30, none under. Something needs to be done!
Sam C 6/15/2014 9:38:47 PM Report

I've said it before... no, people who drink and drive DO NOT "get it." They will never believe that their behaviour is a problem, nor that they get so drunk they cannot drive. Every drunk driver that gets caught has probably driven hundreds of times and not been caught.

And for as poor as their judgment is before they start drinking, once they have been drinking they have NO judgment left.

mallet, and others... the penalties are already quite stiff. There's a hefty fine, plus an ignition interlock -- that must be installed and regularly calibrated in Sudbury, at the driver's expense.

I don't want to say that this problem is never going away, but it's a safe bet that we'll continue seeing stories like this, no matter what penalties are imposed.
D.Hasselhoff 6/16/2014 10:25:18 AM Report

Those damn young punks driving around talking on their cellphones while intoxicated are a nuisance to this city....oh wait.
ranny 6/16/2014 1:02:56 PM Report

@crashed13 planning to ban half the Sault driver? :)
