We bought Team Jacobs. Wanna meet them?

Friday, June 13, 2014   by: SooToday.com Staff

Haven’t met the guys from Team Jacobs yet?

Here’s your chance to both meet and greet our very own Olympic-gold-medal-winning curlers.

SooToday.com, LOCAL2.ca, Riversedge Developments and Mill Market chipped in and ‘bought’ the team for the day as part of a fundraiser to help the boys bring their families along for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

So, on Saturday we’re inviting you to come out and meet them and get their autographs at several locations throughout the day.

Brad Jacobs, Ryan Fry, E.J. Harnden and Ryan Harnden will start the day off with a trip to the newly-opened Mill Market at the former muncipal fish hatchery.

The 2013 Brier winners will be there from 8-10 a.m., after which they will pop over to Wacky Wings on Great Northern Road for lunch from 11:30-12:30 p.m.

Then it’s back to Mill Market and Lily And Claudia’s Ice Cream Shoppe, where the team will scoop ice cream from 1-2:15 p.m.

From 2:30-3:30 p.m., Brad, Ryan, E.J. and Ryan will park themselves at the Art Gallery of Algoma’s Family Day event, and then at 4 p.m., they will make an appearance at Eat Algoma Local Food Festival on Queen Street between East and Brock.

The economy is on life support and some clowns are promoting a few guys whose biggest accomplishment is throwing rocks down a rink.
Oh the humanity.

Is it just me, or does this article seem to be old? Bring their families along to the 2014 Olympics? A little late no? Also, why are they only referred to as the 2013 Briar winners - you think they might reference Olympic Gold Medalists?
s*m*r*t 6/13/2014 2:38:00 PM Report

My mistake, the headline does refer to them as the Olympic Gold Medalists, but still don't understand why we are fundraising so that they can bring their family to the 2014 Sochi Olympics??
taste_of_ink 6/13/2014 2:47:17 PM Report

Back when they were fundraising to bring their families to Sochi, they "bought" them for a day. They are now getting what they paid for back then.
vixen 6/13/2014 2:56:32 PM Report

The article says that sponsor group--already did the fundraising by "buying" the team for a day-- that all has been done
So now-- the day of the guy's time belongs to this group for this day as planned, in turn this group has arranged for us in the Soo to be able to meet and mingle--so thanks for the opportunity and a great chance to hang out with the champions

Hope this helps and I will be attending one of the events planned.

Horseguy are you for real or just an absolute idiot

So Brad should not be recognized for what his curling team accomplished because of the sins of his mother. If that is your belief then your parents must be sorry they are alive because of the jerk you have turned out to be

Poor Canada

Would you please all get a life.
Nobody loves to smack the heck out of someone's success than the weak and sad.
These guys have accomplished something great. The community supported it. Local business got behind it.
It's a great thing.
Please don't go to Mill Market (another local success and a great initiative for the city) and cheer them on. Stay home and sit in your dark basement in front of your computer all day.
Pathetic.
welcome2 6/13/2014 6:12:36 PM Report

well put UYH..according to Horse, blogs don't need to make sense...they are just vehicles for useless drivel from equally useless people like him/her. I hope if Horse ever comes up with a meaningful thought he/she gets it bronzed because it will probably be the only time in his/her life that it happens

Were horseguy and Oreo cookie idiot twins separated at birth? They both sound petty and pathetic.

Number One Son 6/13/2014 8:08:06 PM Report

@horseguy 001, .... if there is a bigger idiot walking this planet other than yourself, it would be a miracle. I also beat those guys once on the ice, ... when they were young teens! A lot has transpired since then, and I would be honored just to play them again, .... but it will never happen.

They are a true success story, and have put the Soo on the sports map of Canada and the world. Shut your clap trap horseguy and kiss their asses, ...
d.brown 6/13/2014 8:38:09 PM Report

They have achieved more in their young lives then anyone in these comments will ever achieve. All of yous talking bad about them just to make yourselves feel good about your crappy low lifes. And throwing a rock is a lot harder then u think I'd like to see you guys do it like them, wouldn't be able to keep up to the rock let alone sweep it. You people chirping them are just a big joke, go do something with your lifes
Oreo cookie 6/14/2014 10:53:13 AM Report

Hey snobank, you couldn't think if anything intelligent so you resort to defamation? Sports is promoted only to distract people from issues that matter...such as no economy, no jobs and a dumbing down of society. The day they introduce body contact into curling will be the day I get interested. FYI curling derives from a barbaric form of warfare that involved sliding megalithic boulders down the slope of a glacier into the campsites of invading hoardes of uncivilized street sweepers armed with straw brooms and bad breath.
canadiens_8 6/14/2014 7:37:52 PM Report

Its always nice to see local people do well. And when they represent our country and win gold, its great. You may not like curling, and neither do I, but I do wish locals the best. And there are a lot of people that would like to meet them...nothing wrong with that. "oreo"....don't be a moron.
