Thursday, June 12, 2014   by: Staff

WAWA - On Wednesday June 11, 2014 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment arrested and charged two individuals under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).

The charges are a result of a drug exchange observed at Centennial Park in Wawa at 1:35 p.m.

OPP arrested 21-year-old Kalvin Hack of Wawa, he stands charged with trafficking schedule II substance - Cannabis Marijuana as per s. 5(1) of the CDSA and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 as per s. 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

A 16-year-old youth was also arrested and charged by OPP, the youth stands charged with possession of a schedule II substance - Cannabis Marijuana as per s. 4(1) of the CDSA.
Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Wawa, Ontario at the Court of Justice on July 14, 2014.

The OPP recognize drug abuse as having a serious impact on community safety, leading to increases in a wide spectrum of violent acts and property crimes.

It is for these reasons that OPP make it a priority to keep drugs out of the hands of minors.

If the opp priority is to protect these minors then why was the youth charged? Smoking marijuana likely less harmful to his future than the possession charge will be.

Tell he is 18, that his slate is wiped clean.

The prison system is far more harmful to the kid who was buying the weed than the actual weed itself... which is harmful to no one. Notice how they did not mention the amount. That is most likely due to the fact that it was something like a gram or two.

Prohibition does not make our streets safer, in fact it does quite the opposite. Marijuana is a cash cow for organized crime, and if we were to legalize it today and sell it in the LCBO, organized crime would face a crippling blow, and we would have more money to go after the real criminals.

Its so sad, our current state of affairs on this issue.

Question: Do you ever actually use your brain, or is it just taking up space in your head?

good job guys right across street from a high school and a stone throw from elementry.
IgnorantNortherner 6/12/2014 6:14:24 PM Report

ritch, a couple grams off the streets isn't going to prevent any kid from getting pot if they want it.

More harm than good done here by the police, imo.

Smoking tobacco and drinking are far more serious health concerns and yet those are legally available and easier for the kids to get.

sorry any drug bust is a good bust. Cant do the time dont commit the crime. the kid knew the price but did it anyway now pay.

Buy the time the justice system of the police, court cost, and legal aid get through with this little weed bust it should not cost us much more the a $200.000.

Oh Ritch. You know a wise man once said: Think for yourself, Question authority. If you want to be a sheep and blindly follow orders which make no sense, by all means go ahead. You have my pity.
