It's safe, but that doesn't mean you want it on your car

NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF SAULT STE. MARIE

*************************
The spring painting of city roadway intersections by local contractors is underway.

Traffic delays will occur during intersection painting.

Line painting on city streets by Public Works crews has also begun.

The public is urged to exercise caution and obey signage.

If a motorist disregards posted signs and drives through recently painted lines, paint will permanently adhere to the vehicle.

The City uses a water-based latex material for intersection and line painting that is safe for employees and the environment.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie thanks citizens for their patience while this essential road maintenance takes place.

"water-based latex material" thats why it only lasts a few weeks in the summer!
The rains washing it off just in time for winter, lol
General Manager 6/9/2014 5:23:43 PM Report

This work is no longer being done by local
Contractors and or city staff the city has sent
These jobs along with our tax money to a
Out of town contractor.

That's pretty good art in the picture did the painter have a couple of wobbly pops, I'm thinking so.
dirtybeard 6/9/2014 5:56:05 PM Report

A couple of years ago a woman hit a painting rig right in front of Lock City Dairies and covered her car with yellow paint. They painted over the road with black paint to cover it up, but it was viable the next year.
Floyd 6/9/2014 5:57:09 PM Report

Hope they start with the corner on Bay near the Old Stone House...Lake Street hill where there is NO 4 WAY STOP BUT IDIOTS THINK THERE IS......and Wellington East....and......everywhere.
ThinkAgain 6/9/2014 6:04:48 PM Report

@General Manager

Are saying we are once again mislead by these press-releases, lol
Sam C 6/9/2014 6:28:54 PM Report

Floyd... They've already started.
Javaman 6/9/2014 6:39:26 PM Report

If that paint sticks that well....why do we have to paint the lines every summer? They used to use oil based paints which lasted a lot longer...but the environmentalists said that was a no no.
rwl 6/9/2014 6:51:54 PM Report

let's hope that they can do a good job on the lines. it is pretty sad when the lines on the roads looks like a drunk painted them (like some of the them did last year)
old-cat33 6/9/2014 9:14:29 PM Report

Its too bad that it had to be contracted out to an out of town contractor but they are doing a fast and good job.

LOL @ dirtybeard: Ya I remember that little truck.I seen it a few days later and it's little arm was welded back on..Ha Ha.
Victor Driver 6/9/2014 11:06:11 PM Report

@ I'm in:

You missed the road pizza that the road crews sprayed over a few years ago on 2nd Line. Too much of an inconvenience to move it out of the way. Mind you...if its all been outsourced then who cares right? Sad...
foxylady069 6/9/2014 11:22:15 PM Report

I can honestly say I saw a city board of works truck at the boundary rd. and trunk rd. intersection painting, on Friday.
CB4 6/10/2014 12:42:35 AM Report

Fix our roads
busy-mom 6/10/2014 2:07:15 AM Report

WHY are the jobs given to out of town contractors? Just like the high school, PUC and the list goes on....
No wonder young people have to move out of this city to look for work!!!
That is a SHAME!
Twist Of Fate 6/10/2014 6:38:12 AM Report

The jobs basically go to the lowest bidder so what does that tell you about a company that can travel here from where ever they are and still make a profit. Local companies must be bidding themselves out of jobs.
Javaman 6/10/2014 7:01:15 AM Report

WHoever is doing the painting is MUCH faster than previous companies...that is a good thing.
terbum2 6/10/2014 7:12:57 AM Report

Last year my wife and I were driving on Wellington and Pim. and they were painting lines at that intersection. there was a lineup holding traffic back, as they were spraying I had my window down a hollered at them to STOP painting as we were sitting there, they just ignored my pleas, As I had just bought a new car that April I pulled over and checked the front of my car and Bingo Paint all over the front end and Headlights. I Filed a Clam with the city, It went to there Lawyers from there to the Adjuster for the city, that was almost a year ago and no response, So now its time to take the City of Sault Ste. Marie to Court. And if I'm not mistaken years ago they would only paint the Lines at night to avoid this problem.
shju 6/10/2014 7:16:44 AM Report

THIS SHOULD BE DONE AT NIGHT!!!!!
Twist Of Fate 6/10/2014 7:28:35 AM Report

Too many drunk drivers on the road at night
CBSA 6/10/2014 7:30:14 AM Report

Joe Fratessi must have been driving the truck in the photo, after sipping on a few vodkas from his CEO office chair!!

Easy to remove:
- first wash area with dish soap to remove all grease, oil, wax, etc.
- use clay bar, available at Canadian Tire, as directed.

Hey terbum2 , i can tell by your answer all you want to do is sue. You want to make a million dollars and retire. Go on ... tell me how you don't want any money all you want is your car fixed or some crap like that.

If it was about your car ,you would buy the product and try a small area that was affected. Maybe you would be out 10 bucks and a couple of hours of labor.

Nooooo lets clog up the courts so you can make some easy money. you lazy %$&%
Thank you to the person who TRIED to help.
Just Curious 6/10/2014 8:42:15 AM Report

Dutch touch, you and I are on the same page about that. Hell, a small bottle of Armorall cleaner will take care of it and that's all a professional would do. A car is a car is a car. It's been a year now and has probably got more bug damage now than paint...
SimsDrum 6/10/2014 10:08:42 AM Report

There has got to be a better way!!!
Frio 6/10/2014 10:57:56 AM Report

Just smash the your car into a cement wall and get a whole new front end repair and paint job..Why be bothered to spend a few minutes of your time cleaning off a few specks of paint, when suing the city seems like such a more productive use of your time and resources?

dutch touch you make me laugh, by reading some of your comments on this site you are truly a Troll, and has no clue on what your talking about. First of all I have all the money I need, and I am retired after 36yrs. in Algoma Steel. Its quite clear you know nothing about owning a new car, There are Warranties, on a new car that cover the paint, adding any product to the paint from neglect are not covered by the manufacture and voids your warranty, so that tells me you never owned a new car. The City has admitted the wrong and had ample time to fix the problem, so just who is clogging up the courts me or the City?. Like I said your nothing but a Troll on this site that knows nothing about what your talking about only blowing smoke out your A**. Get a life better still get a job and do something more constructive in your life.
