Would explain why the entire dumpster at Holy Family School was scattered throughout the schoolyard this morning.
harry dick 6/7/2014 8:44:37 PM Report

Call an animal activist . He and or she will lead the bear to safety , so it won't get hurt .

When they stop putting windmills and highways in the forest maybe these beautiful animals won't feel they have to move on.....they have lost their home.
AlwaysAWinner 6/7/2014 9:56:39 PM Report

LOL there's plenty of forest you dummies. they're here for the food. we are not forcing them out of the forest. god people are dumb
Sam C 6/7/2014 10:15:26 PM Report

Prrrrr... they've been coming into the City since well before the windmills and highways.
d'sbored 6/7/2014 11:32:21 PM Report

Rural area full of bush. Bears are in search of food and after a long-cold winter and late start to Spring food is sparse and not to mention all the bugs driving them out of the bush. I pray there are no bear attacks and hope people have their pets n the house.
Pakadeva 6/8/2014 12:09:22 AM Report

Obviously there are far too many bears roaming the streets of the Soo. Really, no one is safe to be walking the streets anymore...imagine if children were walking down the street. Children are "small animals" to them, lunch anyone? The spring hunt should have never stopped. I'm hoping some of the protestors will come face to face with 1 or 2 or 6 of them, just don't get yourself hurt giving them hugs ok?

If the bleeding hearts in S Ont where bear problems are few and far between would shut up about the Spring bear hunt, we would have less bears for the Ministry to shoot in our yards. Better yet, let's live trap these bears and send them to Hamilton/Toronto are

No Sam C & AlwaysaWinner, Purrr is right I've been at my house since 1985 in the westgate drive area and there were no animal problems before the windmills and I never left my garbage outside for these animals, blame the Liberals and David O for their Policy's to appease Southern Ontario and animal activists.
57stop 6/8/2014 8:20:57 AM Report

No, it is not from the windmills. It is from cancelling the spring bear hunt and the population of the bears growing. The bears needing food and bugs driving them out of the bush.. I live in the same area that I grew up in as a child we would see 1-2 a summer now its a weekly occurrence. Too many bears, take them out!!! Hooray for bringing back the hunt!!
Boomer4771 6/8/2014 8:39:46 AM Report

The problem is that this spring bear hunt was a screw up because of the activist taking it to court and most hunters were not sure if it would be cancelled. I for one didn't get license or bait or took time off for this reason. You won't notice a difference for a few years till people are sure it is on and not wasting time and effort of baiting just to find out it is cancelled. Truth is there are too many bears period.

Bringing back the spring bear hunt is not going to stop animals from searching for food or wandering the streets. There are a lot of foxes, racoons, moose, deer, dogs, and criminals wandering the streets. Shooting the ones you see are not going to change that. The answer is not always just shoot some. You can have your spring hunt but you will still have this problem!

I'm In:

The Liberals didn't cancel the Spring bear hunt, the Conservatives did.

The Liberals are bringing it back as a pilot project.

Some "humans" seem to salivate to kill. Can't do anything pro-active or with any thought other than kill. Certainly there are times when there is not much of a choice (often because of "humans") BUT it sickens me when the first thought is joy to be able to kill a beautiful animal.
CTgasman 6/8/2014 10:23:28 AM Report

The only thing I do believe that has bears within the city has to mostly due to hunger.

Not windmills, not solar panels, and I do believe the bugs are just as bad in my backyard as in the bush across the street.
Alystr 6/8/2014 11:31:45 AM Report

That is too close to Holy Family School. Hopefully this doesn't become a popular thing.
burt 6/8/2014 3:34:00 PM Report

once again the MNR have to do there job and capture these bears and bring them a couple of hundred miles away. the MNR officers get paid to do the job so do it, not the city police

Are you people for real? Holy crap. Get lives.
habsfan 6/9/2014 10:40:12 AM Report

Bears are territorial. You can ship them 1000 miles away and they will come back. There is nothing wrong with a properly managed hunt in the spring and fall. The bears used to be scared of human contact but because we dont hunt them they have no fear. One of these days a child is going to be mauled if not killed and then watch the uproar. Then what. There is no easy answer and if it was up to me i would have an all year long hunt. Bears sre nothing short of a nuisance. If they walk into my yard you can guarantee i will shoot it and bury it all in the same day. PERIOD.
