To the people of Moncton. Stay in your house at this hour. Lock your doors, aim your cellphone cameras, your digital cameras, your smartphones at the windows. Be safe. Communicate without harm to anybody. Let your Police officers do their work.

Keep prevailing.

I have family in Moncton, hope everyone stays safe!!! Prayers headed your way!
lowla 6/5/2014 5:22:36 AM Report

Prayers going to the families of the fallen officers and to the officers that are searching for the shooter...stay safe.
IgnorantNortherner 6/5/2014 6:42:32 AM Report

My condolences to the families of the victims.

So 'Rambo' as they're describing him, makes a FB page 106 days ago and just starts going crazy with anti gun control/police and conspiracy related posts. No one does that, but okay...and his page is still up so you're supposed to see it all, imo.

Then last night after allegedly taking down multiple officers he's been signing into FB accepting new friends. One, Clay Goodine, happens to work for the Department of National Defense. Another newly accepted friend, Caitlin Isaac, already has an exclusive interview up with BusinessInsider. Okay...

It shouldn't take but a few minutes to use his phone to figure out where he is. On top of that they've got JTF2/ERT/special ops on the scene with hundreds of normal officers and helicopters with infrared cams.

So they should get him soon...we hope.

Prayers to Moncton. Hope he is caught soon!

Like previous posters,I too offer my condolences to the families of the officers who were killed.

Moncton is a city slightly smaller than SSM which serves to remind us that this kind of violence is not restricted to large cities. It also causes me to think that the SSM police department's decision to acquire a heavily vehicle was, despite the opinion of many critics, a reasonable purchase to make
soowat 6/5/2014 7:51:44 AM Report

I should have written,"a heavily armed vehicle."
justsomeguy 6/5/2014 9:25:41 AM Report

Don't kid yourselves, SSM is a dangerous place and that vehicle is unfortunately needed here. It would be better to have it & not need it, however...
IgnorantNortherner 6/5/2014 9:52:05 AM Report

lol SSM is a dangerous place? Then no place is safe, I guess.

Dogs would be more effective at finding and taking out a single guy than that BatCar ever would, imo.
So would a helicopter with or without infrared.

Does 'Rambo' have his own photographer? How does anyone get that close to him to snap off that pic?
justsomeguy 6/5/2014 9:56:38 AM Report

I believe the referenced article indicated that image was one that he posted on twitter.

The 'batcar' as you put it is for protecting individuals while serving high risk warrants, infil/exfil rescue operations, etc., not trying to locate.

And yes, SSM is a dangerous place - sure there are more dangerous places and there are safer places.

Yet again you're earning your monicker.
crashed13 6/5/2014 10:33:39 AM Report

Shoot him with a gun not a camera.
groundspeed 6/5/2014 11:12:21 AM Report

You would think that the NSA/CSIS with all the internet traffic snooping that they do in the name of saving lives would be able to thwart these attacks since these mass shooter guys often post manifestos of their intent to kill. I guess they're just looking for Islamic killers. I don't know that their snooping has actually caught any would-be Islamic terrorist killiers but I know they've missed many pre-announced domestic mass killings since the patriot act was implemented. Something fishy here.
IgnorantNortherner 6/5/2014 11:36:18 AM Report

@justsomeguy, so it doesn't seem odd to you that this guy, while being hunted by more swat and mounties than probably anyone ever (plus dogs, tanks, helis, satellites, etc.) has time to log into facebook to accept friend requests and post pictures of himself to twitter? That doesn't pass my smell test.

I guess I just had no idea how dangerous it is here and all the people getting hurt/killed serving warrants and whatnot before we got the BatCar. Ignorant I am.

Hiiiide your kids. Hiiiide your wife.

kamen 6/5/2014 12:58:41 PM Report

Stay safe everyone....I hope this is over soon....If I were there, I would try to go to the basement...bullets can and will pierce walls.....
Vmax-4 6/5/2014 2:28:39 PM Report

IgnorantNortherner, You seem to have the answers for how to catch this guy, possibly you should offer your services to the police. With regard to him logging onto Facebook not passing your smell test, what do you mean by that?
justsomeguy 6/5/2014 2:31:42 PM Report

@Ignorant - knowing how slow the courts move with warrants and that he could be hiding in one of hundreds of houses with internet access, it's not unreasonable for him to log in and post. Further, it's possible that he arranged to have other people log in under his profile and make posts to throw the police off.

By your logic, you'd prefer to have people killed first, then plan to buy an appropriate vehicle after they're dead when it's too late to do anything?

Many, many bad things happen around town that don't make it into the papers. I'll give you one example, my co-worker's son was talking through a parking lot off 2nd line recently when someone grabbed him from behind and put a throat to his throat, as the attacker was cutting he was able to push the knife away from his thoat but his face was cut very badly and had to have his ear & nose stiched up basically back on. The reason? The attacker thought that he was slitting someone else'e throat who owes him money. It happened just before 10pm. Ask the taxi & tow truck drivers about the things they've seen. Not as safe as you think it is here. But feel free to keep sticking your head in the sand.
tosimple 6/5/2014 3:57:01 PM Report

justsomeguy: You are so right!! So much bad shit goes on in this city.. Strange how it never seems to make it into the news.. I don't think the people of this city really know how bad the drug problem is here. The violence is rising in SSM rapidly. Time to change some laws in Canada!! eye for an eye--- tooth for a tooth... You murder some one you get death penalty!!!
Frio 6/5/2014 7:39:56 PM Report

Any idiot with a "smart phone" can log into Facebook and read and post messages even while hiding out in the bush from the police.
ranny 6/7/2014 12:03:14 PM Report

@crashed13 so you're asking a civilian to shoot? The photo was taken by a civilian or bystanders. The shooter was targeting only uniformed people.
