The warmer weather is bringing out the snakes. Remember you scum some of us will leave you with bruises if you get caught in our vehicles. Not everyone is going to treat you like the Police have to. Nothing lower in my books then a thief or an abuser of woman and children.

do you really believe the thieves read the comment section?
dadal 6/2/2014 6:14:10 AM Report

More than likely the morons behind thefts DO read this so they can brag to their hoodlum buddies they made it on SooToday.

Tis the season for our local bike theft ring to start cruising the city looking for bikes in yards to steal. And also unlocked vehicles to get into.

Lock you doors on your cars and homes, secure your windows, lock bikes in yards or better yet put them inside any storage/building so not visible. Don't leave purses/wallets/GPS/Ipods overnight in your car where visible.

These are all common sense but being summer and many here still deny the city has a crime problem, we sadly need to remind everyone what to do.

And ladies...STOP WALING AWAY FROM YOUR PURSES LEFT IN YOUR CARTS IN STORES!!!!! At least cover them with your recycle bags or items you plan to buy so thieves can't do a fast snatch and go. What also works is using the baby strap through the strap on the purse. If a thief tries to grab the purse it will then be tethered to the cart and will pull attention to him/her.

like the reader said I wont be calling any one

dadal is right !!! All too often, while shopping, I spot women with their backs turned away from their purse in the cart. So, I shout out, "unattended purse in a cart !". I don't care what anyone thinks. I'm doing the women a favour because they are too gullible to figure it out for themselves that you never leave your purse unattended!

There have been years of Police reports on their news, on radio and TV of theft of various valuables, electronic items, passports, money, etc from vehicles and yet the thieves seem to have a never ending supply of goods to steal. If as the owner you ignore the obvious and can't be bothered to secure your property from ever present opportunist thieves, why even bother to report it stolen? Almost every time I go to a grocery store I see unattended shopping carts displaying open purses with wallets, cellphones and key rings just asking to be stolen while the owner is busy at "shopping" way off down the aisle. Just keep on helping the thieves, they love to have people who increase their opportunity for success.

perception from here 6/2/2014 4:14:38 PM Report

I agree in principle with the majority of the comments that people have to be responsible for their own actions (locks, etc) however, my experience from this past Saturday night suggests that lawmakers have to be responsible for providing a system that works to curb crime at every level. At approximately 8pm I was organizing my garage and had placed two bicycles outside the man-door while working. The man-door was left open while I worked. I went into the house for less than a minute and when I returned one bike was missing. I managed to see the general direction that the male and female thieves took off in and pursued until I lost them. Point is, the bikes were less than 10 ft away, two cars in the dirveway and still the thieves had the "oh well, nothing will happen to me anyway" attitude to walk right up the driveway and steal the bike. Tougher laws come from government so when you vote, you may want to ask each candidate "what will you do about the epidemic in crime"? Make sure you can trust the individual. Federal PCs platformed on tougher penalties but I have yet to see any change. Comments Bryan? Hayes that is.
