NEWS RELEASE

DAVID JOHNSTON
GOVERNOR GENERAL AND
COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF CANADA

*************************
Message from the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada
on the Occasion of the Canadian Armed Forces Day

OTTAWA - Canadian Armed Forces Day offers us an opportunity to thank the soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen of our military for their service and dedication to Canada.

As Canadians, we are fortunate to be able to count on our armed forces throughout the year.

Whether deployed domestically in support of relief or rescue efforts or in missions abroad, the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces make an invaluable contribution to our shared well-being.

The core values of duty, loyalty, integrity and courage that underlie the efforts of our military can also serve as examples for all Canadians.

As commander-in-chief, I am proud to wear a military uniform.

On this important day, I would like to offer my respect and appreciation to all those Canadian Armed Forces members who so capably serve our country.

David Johnston

As an ex-service member I applaud all our current and past military men/woman. You all deserve a day in the "limelight". I am saddened to see however, how they are being treated by the current government. Services are being cut, healthcare after service has taken a backseat and a host of other issues. I am happy that the government will finally fund service dogs for those members suffering from PTSD. But it's a small gesture after cutting how many millions from their pensions, benefits and other services offered to those that serve?

I am ex military also. I give my thanks to those who served before me, at the same time as me and those who have served since I have been out of the service.

I also have a LOT of disrespect for the current Canadian Government ( PC of course ) who have slashed all kinds of support from our military.

Here is an idea worth floating for all to consider ... why not have the Government give our military the kind of service and pensions that the Government always seem to be able to lavish on themselves and let our Government M.P.P. and M.P. try to live with the kind of pensions they give to our military who have laid their lives on the line for all of us?

What do YOU think?

The above is just my opinion :)

Mypoint Good Point Our Military we all should be proud of and support. It is so sad to see how our Government looks after their own and neglects that people we all owe our freedom to.
