Friday, May 30, 2014   by: Staff

The United Steelworkers, Local Union 9548 and Algoma Seamless Tubular Inc. (Tenaris Tubes) have agreed to extend the life of the collective agreement for one more week with the intent of reaching a better collective agreement for the membership.

Therefore, no strike action will be taken until 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2014.

All members are to report to work as per their regular schedule.

Kudos to Tenaris and to the USW local members at Tube Mill.

Discussion and redoing numbers will lead to a collective agreement both sides may be content with.

Cool heads a logical thinking. This is the Collective Bargaining Process.

Keep Talking.

Good to hear, nobody wants a strike.....

Oh it will all work out, the union always wins in the end. I don't think I have ever seen a union lose to a big corp. in Canada. The company realizes how much money they are losing, then they bend over to the union. Such a shame.

not quite Koolaide, the Auto unions took a big hit a number of years ago, so did the Vale Inco miners in Sudbury.

Congrats to both the union and Tenaris for trying to come up with a better contract. This proves that anything is possible when cooler heads prevail.

Would you mind explaining why you have such a hate on for unions? Surely even someone with your limited knowledge of unions is willing to admit that not all unions are the same. You might even also agree that unions have actually helped others who are not yet in a union themselves.

I know you hate unions, that is obvious from most of your comments. What I would like to know is your true reason for hating them so much? Were you denied a job because of some union in the past or something? Please explain if you are able? I thank you .

The above is MY opinion only :)

the company and membership are playing a risky game ,you can only push parties so far ,the membership called the companies bluff and at this point it swayed in their favour ,if the parties reach another agreement(better then the last) I would hope the membership accepts it, otherwise it could be a long summer and then both parties and this city will lose.
