David O. wants you to remember NDP nursing cuts

Friday, May 30, 2014   by: Staff

Orazietti Committed to Continuing to Strengthen Sault Health Care

The Ontario Liberal plan for health care focuses on new health care investments targeted at continuing to decrease wait times by supporting Personal Support Workers (PSW’s), investing in home care and improving health care services across the province.

"Our plan is fully costed and builds on the significant progress we have made to provide quality health care close to home and reduce wait times for important medical procedures, said Orazietti, Liberal candidate.

"Instead of supporting our plan that received wide ranging support form health care workers, Horwath decided to plunge us into an election, and put the province at risk of a Hudak government that is determined to cut thousands of health care jobs.

The Liberal plan for health care includes the following initiatives:

  • A Primary Care Guarantee that will ensure all Ontarians with access to a doctor or nurse practitioner
  • Increasing the number of Health Links from 54 to 90 across the province to connect high needs patients with a care coordinator, who will help them navigate the system, including access to primary care
  • An additional investment of $750 million by 2016/17 for home and community care services for seniors, which includes $270 million for this year
  • $6 million for community paramedics across the province to provide services, such as proactive care to frequent 911 callers, to reduce ER pressure
  • Increasing wages for Personal Support Worked (PSWs) by $4/hour
  • Expanding the scope of practice of nurses, giving them the ability to prescribe a wide range of medications and order tests such as CT scans and X-rays. Since 2003, the Liberal government has hired over 20,000 additional Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses combined
  • Increasing access to health benefits such as prescription drugs, assistive devices, vision care and dental care to approximately 500,000 children from low-income families

The NDP have voted against crucial local health care projects, such as the new Sault Area Hospital and the Algoma Public Health Building.

It is important to remember that when the NDP were in government they cut 3,000 nursing positions in the province.

The Harris-Hudak PCs fired 6,000 nurses, comparing them to “out of fashion hula hoops.” The PC’S also closed 28 hospitals, cut over 7,000 hospital beds and left one million Ontarians without a family doctor.

In contrast, since 2003, the Ontario Liberal government has increased health care funding by 68%, which has meant improved access to doctors and nurses.

This investment is improving health care for Sault residents through a number of projects, including the new Sault Area Hospital, two new family health teams, a new Nurse Practitioner-led Clinic, a new long-term care home, as well as increased access to home care.

You really must have the mental capacity of a child to make any sense of the children's games these supposedly grown adults play with each other.

"It's your fault!"
"No, you started it!"

How do you support the NDP, PCs, or Liberals when all they seem able to offer is a blame game with generous helpings of lying and stealing with zero accountability for their actions.

These are the people that you believe support your best interests? LOL

People deserve the government they get, and they deserve to get it good and hard.

Woodwrkr 5/30/2014 3:08:44 PM Report

If the Liberals wouldn't have blown 48 billion on windmills we would be able to afford health care

David O time to GO
steelworker 5/30/2014 3:12:27 PM Report

Also pissing away a few billion dollars on the gas plant fiasco. That money would have went a long way in improving health care in Ontario. Now Wynne is being accused of propping up some real estate company to the tune of 317 million dollars in taxpayer money in the GTA.
justsomeguy 5/30/2014 3:14:45 PM Report

I can't wait until the election so these parties will finally just shut up.

Barely hear a peep from them the rest of the time unless it's self-congratulatory statements and now these little lapdogs won't stop yapping.
anapeg 5/30/2014 3:16:03 PM Report

Was it not another, more famous Progressive Conservative who initially ran through the hospitals bare foot cutting jobs unmercifully all the while yelling at the voter to volunteer, VOLUNTEER! There is not one of these scoundrels worthy of our vote yet one of them will be elected to take us for a ride.

Frio 5/30/2014 4:52:24 PM Report

In 1990, Ontario’s net debt was $38.4-billion, growing to $114.7-billion by 1998. It has since more than doubled and is projected at $269.2-billion for 2013-14 and $289.3-billion for 2014-15. With the forecast deficits and compound interest, it will approach $300-billion within three years. It will cost $12 billion a year in interest alone at todays low rates. Debt cost is the 4th largest expenditure after health, education and social services.
So how many more promises can be added on to the ever increasing debt to try and buy some more votes? The government (taxpayers) would be saving $12 billion a year if the previous governments hadn't kept on sinking us into an ever growing financial hole.

And when McGuinty announced the employee health premium deduction from your paycheck he used the money on other things instead of healthcare which it was intended for and he cut healthcare and nursing just ask the nurses, I don 't know where David O says the NDP did it when they haven't held power since 1995 he must like living in the past, he should be worried June 12th.
rockbanger 5/30/2014 6:37:52 PM Report

Liberal babble.

Today nurses are few in number.... The red-machine had many years to fix that.

Anyone who has had a loved one in hospital know that the PSWs, nurses aids, or assistants are used by the medical system to do a majority of the work. These people do a fabulous job.

The people or assistants who help the few nurses who help the almost non existent doctors are the lowest paid in our system and their wages can be as low as $14/hour. Orazzieti, Wynne and Dalton should be ashamed at the system they have created.

Why build new medical facilitates and not staff them correctly, while providing minimal and usually substandard care.

The red-machine should be ashamed?, The provincial liberals are a disgrace to all taxpayers.
Fascism is ugly...don't let the new hospital fool you for one minute. Wake up and look at the whole picture.

almost 1400 jobs will be cut in sault ste marie ,all you anti liberals, your tune would change if your employment was threatened by a pink slip or your loved one or family member was at risk of losing their home, and go vote NDP so they raise minimum wage to 14 hr and the cost of living goes,up!, your standard of living goes down but u probably dont care about that because you work at the steel plant where it is cozy
rockbanger 5/30/2014 7:23:00 PM Report

1400 jobs cut in the Soo.... Get a grip on reality and realize when someone is blowing smoke.

There will not be many if any jobs lost.

Not going to happen when we put Celia in and the NDP make a minority government with the PCs...

Southern Ontario is going Blue and our only choice for intelligent leadership with from an educated background is Celia Ross.

Think roxpin... Think.!!!

roxpin, if I've got this right, you're fine with people making a good living off taxpayer funds (which reduces the standard of living of everyone that doesn't have one of those jobs) but you're against raising minimum wage for the little guy because it may reduce your standard of living?

Mr. Poster 5/30/2014 9:10:21 PM Report

roxpin 5/30/2014 9:43:41 PM Report

what i mean raising minium wage is going to do nothing because the cost of living just goes up to match that so their is not gain, the employers have a hard enough time dishing out 10.25 specially small business never mind 14/hr you"ll see when your paying $2.89 for kraft dinner. So who suffers? everybody making above minimum wage because unless they have a union and get pay equity or cost of living raise, which not always the case , So everybody's standard of living goes down when it should be going up minimum wage workers lose nothing

May I remind you David O of the GAS PLANT SCANDAL , WIPING THE HARD DRIVES CLEAN to cover up the gas plant scandal, Ornge scandal Samsung scandal, and the host of other scsndals the Liberals are into. Lets point the finger at the highest cost of electricity in North America. David your sounding scared. Come on David address the scandals in the Liberal Government. Why should Ontario trust the Liberal Party? I believe this is a reasonable question to ask of our elected representive in Toronto.
I'm In 5/30/2014 10:12:00 PM Report

roxpin and businesses are losing money because of wages @ $10.25 an hour you need to get the facts on that and quit being brainwashed. The cost of living has been going up day in and day out but my wages have been frozen for over two years in the OPS for the Liberals to reduce the provincial deficit which has increased by their bad spending habits on waste. Bye bye David O it was so good to know ya.
roxpin 5/30/2014 10:47:06 PM Report

i'm in @

if you work in the public service you can lose your job if the liberals get in, 1349 people in sault ste marie will be handed a pink slip and most likely it will be you ,so who is being brainwashed?, you say you have not have a cost of living raise in 2 years you will be hurting even more if minimum wage goes up to 14$ an hr, because now prices are sky-rocket You'll see! cost of living goes up 2-3 percent a year public sectors have not got a raise in 7 years the best we have ever gotten was 1%

i'm in@

i mean if conservatives, ndp get in
All Is Well 5/30/2014 11:00:39 PM Report

Having your wages frozen for two years is a hell of a lot better than getting laid off, your job terminated or deemed redundant.
dadal 5/31/2014 7:20:42 AM Report

NONE of these parties are CLEAN!!!

Libs, PC and NDP ALL have had irresponsible spending and scandals.

NDP ran the budget up and yes the issues with Health Workers.

PCs cut teaching jobs to insane levels. And don't forget Ontario PCs and the SAME party as Federal PCS...senate scandals, etc.

Prev Libs are no angels either and have a history.

Think of what we NEED right now.

-NO PARTY WILL DO ANYTHING FOR THE SOO. Remember this when you vote. Orazetti has done squat, PCs last time in office moved jobs from the SOO to Sudbury, NDP did more BUT only because of Tony Martin. The current NDP joker is spewing more blame than solutions.

-WHO IN LOCAL WILL HELP US? Again PCs think the Soo is a wasteland. Orazetti has done minimal, NDP has had a poor record with us since Tony left.

Honestly, spewing off in the comments won't influence anyone local. We all have our opinions. And I WOULD vote for a dwarf riding a unicorn if they would be honest and do what they promise. But in reality NONE of these parties will do anything for us.

Best is the lesser of 3 evils. Sadly I'll be voting Liberal. Hudack is too full of BS, NPD is just as bad with avoiding questions on their plans and proposing the same budget the Libs did. At least the budget the Libs put out there was great and Wynne has been trying to clean the past messes. I'll give her a try.

How is wynne trying to clean up the Liberal messes when on thursday she just cost the taxpayers another 317 million dollars with a bad real estate investment for government offices. Which the contractor cant fullfil.
Get rid of them now and give someone else a chance to spend taxpayers money properly.

I can't imagine anyone being stupid enough to vote liberal again! Have they not been paying attention to the waste and mismanagement that has been going on in the province under the Liberals...How could they even think of giving them a chance to stick it to us one more time? Wake up people for goodness sakes!!! They are bull shitting you again!!!
Mr. Poster 5/31/2014 2:15:39 PM Report

Many will vote Liberal because of the dislike for HUDAK. Many would never vote NDP in a million years. Some are mad at Horwath for propping up the Liberals for as long as she did. Others are mad at her for throwing the Liberals out when the Liberals presented the NDP with a budget they could have accepted. Many will hold their nose vote for the least of the evils..the Liberals.
