Fraud alert: energy bill emails

Thursday, May 29, 2014   by: SooToday.com Staff

NEWS RELEASE

PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION

*************************
PUC would like to advise customers of an alert it has received from the Ontario Energy Board (OEB).

There have been reports of consumers receiving emails that are purportedly sent on behalf of the OEB.

These fraudulent emails suggest that the recipients have unpaid bills from the OEB.

This is FALSE; the OEB does not bill consumers directly.

Anyone receiving such an email is asked to contact OEB’s Consumer Relations Centre at www.ontarioenergyboard.ca/OEB/Consumers/Contact+Consumer+Relations.

The sad thing is people don't know the half of it on how much of a fraud PUC is. If they knew they would be calling for heads along with our darling mayor.

No, the sad thing is about how uneducated the general public are about how the electricity market works in our Province. This has nothing to do with the PUC, with the exception that the Ontario Energy Board has asked the distributors (PUC being one) to let their customer base know about the potential fraud. I seriously recommend reading up on how the electricity market works, I think you will learn some very interesting facts - I know I did!!! For example, did you know that PUC does not set the rates for your electricity, and further, that their distribution rates are one of the lowest in the Province? I think you will learn, as I did, that it's the Provincial Government that is causing all of our Energy woes, not PUC and that we need to redirect our complaints to the correct place to affect change....Hey didn't I hear something about a Provincial Election? Now just might be a good time!!

Wait to go, Steve!

Why is the OEB not sending an alert about the Union gas bills last month.

Anybody that had extra gas due to estimates all winter is being charged at the new higher April rates rather than the rates for when they used the gas all winter.

You have to call Union gas to get your bill fixed

I called and they adjusted my bill down by over $20.00

This applies to everybody in Ontario

IRONICAL MAN 5/29/2014 3:38:49 PM Report

behold the elusive sootoday thinker in its native habitat, accusing those in disagreement of either welfare abuse or drug addiction. a remarkable leap in reasoning as it were "horsepower" from paleolithic man, but still falling short of the cognitive development we have come to expect from even our most profoundly mentally disabled.
chris-audi 5/29/2014 4:40:14 PM Report

PUC does't want anyone to rip you off other than them.
