That's a Dodge Journey, not a Dodge Caliber. Glad to hear the driver will be okay.

Gotta watch out for those sneaky lampposts on Trunk Rd. They will win every time.

Texting and driving. It could have been a kid not a pole.

you shouldn't assume the driver was texting and driving. it's a possibility, but anything could have happened.

ok 1 Question. The post that was knocked down had a speed limit sign on it, completely visible in the picture. Why is the posted speed 60k in what is obviously a business area? I would think that speed reduction in any area's with a lot businesses and residential areas should be no more than 50k. Perhaps many accidents could and would be avoided.
northernmale 5/28/2014 10:53:42 AM Report

onthelook where did you get texting from this article, remember when you assume you make an ass of you and me .Me for believing you may have known what you are talking about. So please don't assume

@antiquejewelryboughtandsold

Reducing the speed limit 10km/h will do f all. Stupid idea......
PaulyG 5/28/2014 11:13:24 AM Report

50k or 60k don't matter !!!! It's the asses that do 80-90k down Trunk road!!! And the fact that the driver took out that pole had to be flying from jumping the curb!!! texting, sexting,It don't matter what happened it was careless driving at a high rate of speed!!! They left there lane period. They jumped the curb like the Duke's and hit the pole in midair flying!!!
MYPOINT 5/28/2014 11:20:48 AM Report

There is only ONE thing we can be pretty sure of and that is that the pole did NOT cause this accident. Other than that, we have NO details regarding why it happened. Therefore anyone saying the driver was texting etc. is simply 'assuming facts not in evidence' as they say in court.

For the poster ( I forgot the name ) who said that the speed limit should be lowered , I think it is ridiculous to lower any speed limits because it is NEVER the speed limit which causes accidents, it is fools who do not pay attention while driving that cause accidents! Plain and simple my friend.

As always, this is only my opinion :)

The things local businesses will do to get another business to advertise for free for them.

I find it ironic that the pole this driver hit and knocked down DID have the Speed Limit sign mounted on it.

antique... 60 is appropriate for that stretch of roadway, just as it is on Gt Northern. The problem isn't the POSTED speed limit, but the ACTUAL speed that people drive.

McNabb is only 50 km/h, and is posted as such in several locations as a reminder (if there is no sign then the speed limit IS 50 km/h), but people go up to 80km/h along that stretch.

how come back in the day we used cb radio's and we never heard of crashes it must be the texting thats going on 10-4
Nats85 5/28/2014 2:21:56 PM Report

lol OR the poor guy driving was working a night shift after being up all day to begin with and wasn't texting and driving or anything everyone jumps to conclusions about...Way to go sootoday for NOT posting details such as "no alcohol was involved" or anything along those lines...all that was important to his family was that he was ok and the only fault was that he drove while totally tired out..have a great day judging everyones stories on here since you have nothing else better to do, clearly :)
Frio 5/28/2014 2:43:53 PM Report

PUC's and the cities fault. They put up the lamp pole with distracting speed limit and no parking signs on it in an area they should have known it was possible for an innocent driver to jump the curb and run into it.
salvagebucke 5/28/2014 3:55:54 PM Report

stupid lamp posts just jump right out in front of you no warning or anything.

ducky58 5/28/2014 5:34:42 PM Report

Nats 85 if the person was that tired from working a night shift or any other shift he or she should not have been driving. That pole could have been someone's child or anybody.
houston 5/28/2014 5:36:55 PM Report

The driver may have suffered a seizure while driving.
guestwho 5/28/2014 6:15:19 PM Report

5 lanes and hit a pole, ass drivers like that would hit a pole in a 10KM zone, there`s no speed limit for stupid
canadiens_8 5/28/2014 8:26:38 PM Report

Probably a woman driver. Or a drunk/texting one.
