Main break repair to affect traffic on Carmen's Way

Wednesday, May 28, 2014   by: SooToday.com Staff

NEWS RELEASE

PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION

*************************
The PUC would like to advise the public of a traffic restriction on Thursday, May 29 in the area of Carmen’s Way and Second Line East.

This traffic restriction is in place to facilitate the repair of a broken water main on the east side of the Carmen’s Way and Second Line East intersection (in front of Bitonti Motors).

During the repair process, the east-bound merging lane with Second Line East will be CLOSED while crews conduct repairs.

A detour will be in place to allow right-hand turns on to Second Line East from Carmen’s Way.

This traffic restriction is necessary to ensure the safety of repair crews as well as the travelling public.

Usually when a main breaks they issue a boil water advisory, was there one issued this time?

I don't drive the truck route too often, but I think its been leaking for at least a couple weeks.

Darn you, PUC!! If you hadn't built your "Crystal Palace" there wouldn't be any water main breaks!!
Frio 5/28/2014 10:06:41 AM Report

A "Crysal Palace" has absolutely nothing to do with water main breaks. Try cold winters, frost penetration, frost heave, unstable soil conditions, aging pipes and then possibly you would sound like you had some knowledge and insight instead of any poor excuse to babble on about the PUC. You missed out on brown water, squirrels causing blackouts, potholes, city politicians and the blaming the police but the day is still young.

LOL SAMC :)
MYPOINT 5/28/2014 11:27:03 AM Report

My only concern with this is the fact that it will be very difficult for semi's to turn off of Carmen's Way onto 2nd line if they have to do so at the traffic light. Other than that, I do not have anything else to say about this repair.

As always, this is only my opinion :)

Carmen's Way ... the most expensive, lonely road in the city.
Sam C 5/28/2014 12:45:34 PM Report

Frio... I am one that frequently chastises others for making "Crystal Palace" comments. Mine was intended as sarcasm, as Tag recognized.

Weisenheimer... it may not have the traffic volume of some other roads in the City, but only because people -- for whatever reason -- haven't chosen to utilize this very convenient route.

If you're travelling from the west end to downtown, or vice-versa, it is a great route.

And it's not JUST a "truck route", as dirty beard suggests. In fact, i would say there are more cars/light trucks using it than transports.
dirtybeard 5/28/2014 12:58:18 PM Report

Sammy, it is THE route for transports coming off the bridge and heading west or east or vice versa - is it not?

I saw a moose cross great northern road, do we need to call it the great northern moose, cat, dog, car, truck, e-bike, cyclist, pedestrian paved surface?
Wisenheimer 5/28/2014 7:14:58 PM Report

That would be "Wisenheimer" ... you're welcome.
Although a nice road, it really doesn't connect anything.
If ASI had moved their #3 truck terminal to #1 gate, as was imagined, it would will make sense.
As it stands, it's makes for a nice autobahn for Gramma and Gramps to get to the Casino.
dirtybeard 5/29/2014 6:22:20 AM Report

Do you mean #2 gate, not #1 gate?

#1 is the worker gate at the praxair plant that also connects to Patrick. #2 is the queen street gate.
