Celia went downtown. You won't believe what happened next (Yes you will)

NEWS RELEASE

NDP CANDIDATE CELIA ROSS

*************************
Celia Ross met Thursday with downtown business owners and community members to listen to their concerns and discuss the NDP’s plan for change which will deliver results for this region.

“The NDP will build this community by investing in transit, cutting taxes for small businesses and raising the minimum wage to $12 an hour,” said Ross. “The Liberals are promising the moon and the stars to escape their scandals but people know that only the NDP can be trusted to deliver.”

The Liberals dealt a huge blow to municipal transit systems when they cancelled the Ontario Bus Replacement Program in 2010.

The Liberals also failed Sault Ste. Marie tenants by neglecting to improve building standards.

The NDP’s campaign platform also commits to protection for tenants and investments in cycling infrastructure.

View the platform details at: www.ourplan.ontariondp.ca.

1)What would happen if nobody voted?
2)What would happen when the taxpayer gives up and says NO.
3) how much does an election cost the taxpayer

I know so many people that gave up voting, they just shake there head. replies have been -Tired of the head games.

The main problem today, there are too many educated people so the lies are not working anymore. The Math does not add up.

Can anyone answer question #1 What would happen?

This is the first time I believe NDP will improve our city. I read previous NDP records for our city and did do well. Just my opinion !!!!

Those of us who remember when the NDP formed the government will cringe with the thought of them forming another one. They delivered a massive debt and the beautiful Ray days which cost worked thousands of dollars. They have not changed their mindset and we definitely have lots to fear from them.
northkidd2 5/25/2014 12:38:04 PM Report

@ Sweetwill,
Are you serious when you say David has done nothing for this city? Wow what rock have you been living under? You seriously need to do some research. Here is a few things that David and the Liberals have done for this city.
- New hospital funding
- 5 New schools
- College expansion
- Algoma university becomes independent
- $502 subsidy for EVERY household to reduce outrageous city property taxes
- $10,000,00 - Group Health Centre
- over $1,00,000 - YMCA Funding
- 3.5 million - 3rd Line extension
I can go on and on and on…
Apparently you have no clue...
northkidd2 5/25/2014 12:43:59 PM Report

I also forgot to mention that the NDP voted against having Algoma University becoming independent. Funny thing.. Celia was the President of the university at that time.

Why vote for a party that will NEVER form government?

Read the papers… there are SEVERAL NDP candidates that are totally upset with the platform that their own party came out with… there is NOTHING different in that 7 page document (yes.. only 7 page document) that is different than what was in the very same budget that the NDP would not support causing this very expensive election that is going to end up with another minority government… totally irresponsible of the NDP!
port 5/25/2014 12:57:37 PM Report

A lesson learned after 30 years of listening to politicians.....

Politicians during their campaign make promises and try to earn your trust in order to be elected to pursue their political agenda.

Once elected, they break their promises and breach your trust in order to pursue their political agenda.

Moral of the story...vote for who you believe will at least try to live up to their promises as much as possible.
mac headrick 5/25/2014 1:53:06 PM Report

KGK posters on this site keep refering to the Bob Rae time in Ontario.Total debt from then looks pretty good when compared to now.

Total Ontario debt 1995 - 101.9 billion.

When Mike Harris left 2002 - 132.6 billion.

Presence 2014 - 288.1 billion.

sweetwill David's record is pretty good now of course you and I paid for it.

My point is not to vote NDP or Liberal or Conservative. Oick who ever you like.

Northkidd2, just because Davids face shows up on everything that happens in town doesn't mean he has squat to do with it. David is really good at finding a parade and getting in front of it...

Anyone but Hudak and Horwath and Wynne....yikes I ran out of possibilities.
suunnny 5/25/2014 2:41:28 PM Report

Mr. Poster where is the concern for people who can’t live properly on minimum wage. Is it OK because you’ve got yours? Can’t we structure things so small business can survive without the use of virtual slaves? Should we repeal labour laws so we can get kids back into coal mines? They were considered expendable before; why should we care now? Let’s be more creative in our approach and less afraid. We need to face challenges with courage. No change means things will get worse.
Thinkagain - voting matters less when fewer people vote. We are complacent as a society with bread and circuses. Trying to control your destiny is better than putting your tail between your legs and running off into the night. The answer to 1) is dictatorship.
KGK the NDP inherited a huge deficit that the Harris and Peterson PC/Liberals left in hiding and tried to do something about it. Everybody shared the pain a little instead of a few sharing a lot by losing their jobs. If there were 5 people who were really thirsty and 4 had 10 oz. of water wouldn’t the human thing to do to give the 5th 2oz. each? Lend a hand to those less fortunate. Follow the Golden rule. Fear and Greed are our undoing. Check the debt info that mac headrick posted.
Northkidd2 Liberals are always saying if we are government and you don’t for us then you get nothing. How moral is that? There was no choice about most of that stuff anyway. Could the province see us sink into a hole without building our new hospital which has not ONE MORE BED than the other 2? Health care is still a problem in Sault Ste. Marie because of poor building design and lack of staff. People who can leave the Sault for better care when it is serious. Most of the funding was timed for the last election. Unfinished buildings were opened for one of Orazietti’s famous photo ops. Is the NDP responsible for $3 billion in gas plant scandals that Wynne and Orazietti’s government covered up? Hudak’s PC’s are happy to see the NDP take the unjustified heat for the election but it was the NDP who prevented an election for this long before giving up on the Liberals.

Way to go Mac Headrick and on top of that Rae was a Liberal in orange.
freedom1 5/25/2014 3:55:43 PM Report

Vote NDP and pick the lesser of 3 evils. After on the lies and scandals of the CONservatives and the liberals it would be foolish to vote for parties who keep screwing us around. Vote NDP and increase minimum wage is a good thing. Giving more money to the lower class that money gets spent and benefits the economy. Give a rich man money he just puts it in the bank doesn't help anyone but himself.
CONservatives are for the rich, and no your not rich so why you vote that way.
Liberals act like they care for the poor but only care for the rich.
NDP care for the less fortunate. Yes that's you.
It's foolish for a poor person to vote for the party that is going to help the rich.
northkidd2 5/25/2014 4:07:46 PM Report

freedom1….really?
"NDP care for the less fortunate. Yes that's you.
It's foolish for a poor person to vote for the party that is going to help the rich."
Perhaps we should look at the big picture here.. you are saying that 'the rich", those who went and earned a diploma, degree, or both perhaps, work hard and earn what they make should be punished and those 'less fortunate' should reap all the benefits? It is clear where you are in life…

hee hee just josin.

right wing keeps pushing the right. Might be something there but here is the question. Which right wing party the Conservatives or the new kid on the block Horwath NDP?

Bob the builder 5/25/2014 4:34:37 PM Report

Sweetwill, you say David has done nothing for us? Where have you been hiding, under a basket?
Biggars 5/25/2014 5:24:18 PM Report

As a business owner 1$ more an hour is not an unreasonable increase. A small increase in corporate taxes will not cause the economy to implode. If it seems the NDP has shifted a bit in their platform, it is because they have shifted a bit in their platform. They want to be taken seriously as contenders in this election.
So here are the options as I see them...Lose 100 000 real jobs for 1 000 000 hypothetical jobs. Larger classes for all kids, and no support for most kids with significant special needs. Sure we'll keep the police and the nurses...we are going to need them to patch up the fallout from our schools. The PC's think they can capitolize on liberal mistakes to get everything they ever wanted. I can get what the PC's want by driving across a bridge, I live in Canada because I value education and human rights.
Can you trust the liberals? How many times will you let a party outright lie before you kick them out.
Justin Tetreault 5/25/2014 7:12:24 PM Report

To Thinkagain:

If nobody counted it would be a tie. The Ontario Elections Act says in the case of a tie, the Returning Officer for the riding casts the deciding vote.

Sorry that should say that if nobody voted, it would be a tie.
harry dick 5/25/2014 8:08:11 PM Report

I went through the N.D.P. government starting in 1990 and they blamed the other parties for their mistakes . THEY ENDED UP ADDING TO THE PROVINCIAL DEBT , NOT REDUCING IT. Hopefully I do not have to endure another one . It cost Ontario's "TAXPAYERS" a bundle and ended up with nothing to show for it.
eadiecougs 5/25/2014 11:50:38 PM Report

housewife party is needed my mom could feed five kids on 8 dollars a day and work at nite and still buy the house they wanted its called a budget something these parties dont know about
MYPOINT 5/26/2014 6:05:18 AM Report

What most people do not realize is that it really does NOT matter who you vote for in your local ridings. How could it? The person representing YOU is only one tiny voice in the party machine. That means that the local rep can promise you the moon and stars but only be able to deliver you a smile when it comes right down to it.

I still believe that it is time for ALL of the hopefuls to sign a document stating that they WILL implement a ' recall ' method so that we can fire any rep, yes including the leaders of these parties, if they fail to keep their promises. We all know why this has never been done in the past ( ie. lies ).

I 'predict' another Liberal minority but who knows, maybe it will be something else in the end.

Have a great day everyone :)
right wing 5/26/2014 7:09:26 AM Report

I keep reading this "we" can fire or recall a leader or rep.
So how is this going to work, who decides they should be fired and under what circumstances and how is this process going to work.....Oh, wait a minute we have one of those it's called an election.
