I know names are witheld to protect the youths involved BUT someone like that NEEDS to have his name published. Better yet, on a billboard.

Ditto that !!!!!
greeneyeds 5/23/2014 9:59:21 AM Report

It is a hard call for sure, protecting the victim versus protecting potential victims. I hope the child involved gets the help needed to get through this horrible experience and that the man involved gets a fit punishment...I will keep my opinion of what a fit punishment would be to myself.
jerjer 5/23/2014 10:09:19 AM Report

I know who it was and I REALLY wished they did publish his name he deserves to be known!!!!

So sad this person took away the girls innocent.
EmmasDad 5/23/2014 12:26:34 PM Report

Perhaps the name is not released to protect the accused. Did it ever occur to any of you that they might be innocent? Do you have any idea how common false claims are?

Being accused and convicted are no less socially damaging than the other.

The mean I.Q. of this site can't possible exceed 85.
greeneyeds 5/23/2014 12:33:16 PM Report

EmmasDad, aside from the insult to our collective intelligence (which was likely unnecessary), you raised a very valid point. We do sometimes forget to give people the benefit of the doubt and that's an awful thing to do. I think we all get a little panicked when we think of the monsters that are out there waiting for a chance to harm children and lose sight of the anguish that would undoubtedly be caused by a false accusation.
jerjer 5/23/2014 1:13:18 PM Report

well with knowing the accused and the little girl who had her innocence tooken away, I do know that he is 100% guilty, and his name should have been released to the public, as the little girl wanted his name to be public as well so he could not do this to anyone else again!!!!
scoobie doo 5/23/2014 1:28:32 PM Report

I agree with emmasdad - this person may be guilty but not all those accused are. I know of cases where the accused was guilty, but I also know of cases where the story was made up to get a person into trouble. Once a name is released, they are assumed guilty not innocent and ruined for life. After it's been to court and a judge determines the person to be guilty, that's the time to publish names, not when arrested. IMO, this is how all cases should be treated, not just child abuse cases.
jerjer 5/23/2014 1:34:01 PM Report

I completely agree with you there, I do know that once this case does go to court, his name will be released as he will have to go on the sex offenders list than!! its just a matter of waiting for our courts to go through it is all!! and I agree there is certain people out there that do just make stories up which is just wrong, and I feel those people should be charged if they do that!!!
MYPOINT 5/23/2014 3:16:16 PM Report

I agree that the name of the accused should remain confidential until such time as the case has been adjudicated. Many times, one parent will ask their child to make a false claim against the other parent in order to hurt the other parent. In other cases, the child is angry at some adult because of some rule that the child must follow so they decide to cause trouble for the adult in question. So by keeping the name of the accused confidential until it has been PROVEN IN COURT that he or she is actually GUILTY of these horrible offences, it is always best IMHO at least, to keep the names of these accused persons confidential.

IF, on the other hand, a child makes a FALSE claim against some adult, the parents of that child should be the ones held responsible ( depending on the age of the child in question of course ). If the child is over the age of say 14 or whatever, the child should be held responsible for their FALSE accusations against an innocent adult. Again, that is why I support keeping the names of these accused confidential until the case has been adjudicated.

It seems to me that whenever we read of these types of crimes, most of us have a knee jerk reaction and we simply assume that the accused is guilty. We simply MUST remember that in this Country ( at least for the time being ), all of us are considered INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.

As always, your views may differ from mine :)
Boomer4771 5/23/2014 5:15:32 PM Report

The problem is just because he isn't found guilty doesn't mean he is innocent. A lot of times charges are dropped cause some bullshit mistake was made and the pervert goes away free or the crown makes a BS deal. Yet that child suffers for the rest of their lives. Seen it happen too many times....
young guy 5/23/2014 9:36:11 PM Report

Dadal and Jerjer,

I don't think these articles should even be published at all! Nobody knows who it even is. And since it's a pedophile case, obviously you need to protect the identity of the victim. Which means no names period.

I'm guessing you don't like the victim that he did this to? If names we're published, there would be less victims coming forward.

Tell me, why should the victim's name be on the billboard with this guy?

Emma's dad,

I agree with you 100%! But, even if he is guilty, his name shouldn't be published and this story should not even be published as it's a complete waste of time reading about.

Why did I just waste 3 minutes of my time on this?? ****

"We simply MUST remember that in this Country ( at least for the time being ), all of us are considered INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW."

Are you talking about Canada? If you are think again.

No charges, no trial, but presumed guilty

I don't think I seen a peep about this in any local rag.

The police in this Country are getting way to much power. That isn't really a good thing, considering it's getting harder and harder to tell the difference, between cops and criminals.

Oh for all the half-witts who don't care about privacy, you may want to read the article. The same goes for the ones who are so willing to relinquish other rights, like warrantless searches etc. The people in the article had nothing to hide too. Its just harmless information.
dragonfly7 5/26/2014 12:27:58 AM Report

Oh well he must be guilty then...only in Canada.
