Provincial Liberal auto plan decreasing insurance rates
Facts force NDP to admit Liberal plan is working
SAULT STE. MARIE - Senior staff in NDP leader Horwath’s office have accidently sent an email to provincial media admitting that the Liberal plan to decrease auto insurance rates is working, despite recent comments made by local NDP candidate Celia Ross.
This recent NDP admission once again illustrates that Horwath’s reasoning for calling a costly and premature provincial election is disingenuous.
“The Financial Services Commissioner of Ontario confirmed in April that on average, auto insurance rates in Ontario have decreased by 6 percent and I am confident that our comprehensive plan is on track to decrease rates by 15 percent,” said David Orazietti, Liberal candidate for Sault Ste. Marie “It is unfortunate that the NDP forced a costly election, given that the steps we are taking are working to reduce auto insurance rates.”
On Friday, provincial NDP staff accidently emailed internal briefing notes to media outlets describing that they cannot refute the truth that progress has been made in decreasing auto insurance rates.
More specifically, the internal NDP briefing note admitted that NDP candidates “cannot truthfully say that [the Liberals] have broken a promise” on decreasing auto rates in Ontario.
In a similar incident, the NDP candidate from Halton recently tweeted: “Just got my latest car ins payment update + I’m paying $22 less a month! Supporting the #NDP is incredibly selfish of me.”
Despite the provincial NDP’s claim that they triggered a costly election in order to lower auto insurance rates, the reality is that Horwath’s decision has actually jeopardized the government’s work in legitimately reducing insurance premiums even further.
For example, Horwath’s NDP rejected important legislation that would have decreased rates by 15 percent by August 2015.
In addition, it is important for Sault residents to know that a Private Member’s Bill introduced by NDP MPP Jagmeet Singh from Brampton would have increased auto insurance rates in Sault Ste. Marie by as much as 30 percent in order to subsidize premiums paid by drivers in the Greater Toronto Area.
The NDP have also been misleading about the appointment of a Financial Accountability Officer.
The NDP claim that this costly election was required in order to follow through on filling this important oversight position when, in fact, the government has tried twice to hire qualified candidates but the NDP has continually stalled the process by blocking both candidates in Committee.

And we wonder why we have the problems we have today. At one time a hand shake ment something and was a mans word. Sorry to say kamen, but if you have been searching for a job for 2 years you are probably doing something wrong. There are tons of jobs, I just took a look at the job bank and there are 4 pages of jobs. You can't tell me there are no jobs here.
My mom had a similar problem finding a job for a couple of years, I looked at her resume, fixed it up and the next place she applied for she got the job. Sometimes it helps to nicely display things and customize it for the job you are looking, not just a blanket "I am looking for a job" resume...
Sometimes people just have really crappy resumes thus why they don't even get their foot in the door to the interview. Other people look also look for jobs above them instead of working their way up the chain. You don't always get to start at CEO... sometimes you have to start at Mcdonalds as a dish washer before you get to where you want to go.

ShawnM 5/20/2014 8:22:04 PM Report
Most people won't see any reduction in rates till the next time their policy renews. I was talking to my insurance person who is also one of my neighbors and he was telling his company is just doing the full 15% come the next time your policy renews which means I have to wait till like January till I see anything. Most insurance companies will roll it in over 3 years I believe is what he told me.
t55 5/20/2014 8:22:44 PM Report

I too have not seen a decrease in my auto insurance for the past 30-40 years but I did notice an increase in my most recent hydro bill and it will increase for the next 5 years. So much for smart meters.
The liberals are so full of B.S. that it makes me sick. Lies, lies, lies.

We voters need to stop thinking about all the crumbs the Liberals (Orazietti) have been throwing at us, especially at election time. Remember, it's our money in the first place!
Look at how they've destroyed Ontario's economy since 2003 when it comes time to vote.
Norm 5/20/2014 9:58:54 PM Report
David should feel the wrath of the voters. His party has sent Ontario into debt that will be extremely hard to eliminate, or come close to balancing. Also word has it that Ellis Don the contractor for the hospital, holds the mortgage, in other words owns it. I stand to be corrected, perhaps by the Liberals themselves.

Hudak won't create anything but bogus promises. Federal PCs haven't created the millions of jobs they promised-in fact we've seen more and more losses.
As for insuranve rates, mine have decreased in the last 2 years. Either the Lib plan is working or I have a better company than you guys do.

For those of you saying your insurance went down 6-10% or so, please check your benefit caps as they have dropped as much as 50%. Like home care should you need it. I am just picking these #'s random as I use this example of home care going from $50000 per year to $25000 per year. But for a small increase in your premium, you can buy the $50000 cap back for only $15-$20 per year. Now add in back all the other caps that went down and you are actually paying more than you did before. Please don't say your benefits did not decrease as they decreased for everyone. It may have been over the last 2 years but it was across the board. So did rates go down. YES. Did you lose benefits due to it. YES YES YES. So maybe we should be asking, DID RATES GO DOWN AND BENEFITS STAY THE SAME. Politicians have to answer NO to that or they would be lying. Like usual.
ps. You probably lost a lot more coverage if you read the FINE PRINT, but you will not know that until you need it...

SuzyyQ 5/21/2014 8:48:21 AM Report
@PS64, What are you talking about??? What caps???? If you're referring to auto insurance, premiums have definitely gone down with no loss or changes to coverages.
dadal 5/21/2014 9:11:36 AM Report
PS64 not only did my rates decrease BUT my " caps" increased in coverage value. I increased liability and coverages and still paying less. If yours didn't then time to shop around.
Jack Ford 5/21/2014 9:17:24 AM Report
I never thought I would say it , but perhaps voting for the Green Party is the only answer. Put them in power for 4 years, they can't jack up the Province any more than the Liberals have done. This might get the parties attention and they would shake up the BS factory and offer some real candidates with real platforms and real policies that meet the needs of Ontario citizens. Northern Ontario is going to suffer and the Soo will suffer with it after this election, but Dave O. will get paid regardless.
P.S. If a party really wants to get elected they should run on pay cuts to politicians!
IB-fine 5/21/2014 10:58:06 AM Report
I won't know if my insurance rates are going down this year for another couple of months, but I quit my long time insurance company last year as they were increasing rates in advance of having to lower them this year. So the decrease would have been negligible anyway.
So big deal someone saved 6% on their insurance... my monthly payment to PUC just went up $75 from last year! an over 70% increase!
Being on disability after mortgage, taxes, and insurances, and now the large PUC payment it's leaving me no choice but to cut TV, switched the landline phone to cellphone as it includes Canadian long distance.... but not much left for pet food or food for me!
Then in the Liberal budget they were going to increase OW for singles by $100 (which it needs) but nothing for those of us on disability! Thanks so much! Their reason? OW is up and down with the economy, Hudak is going to give them $11 an hour jobs... but if you are sick and miss work how do you pay the rent??
(these rates are not even back to the pre-Harris cuts of 1994 for 21.5%) 20 years later and we still aren't back to 1993 rates!
Their own report (Bright Futures etc.) by Frances Langford and company had told them to increase the single rates by $100 immediately for those singles on OW and ODSP. Then on the next budget to increase the shelter costs by another $100 and the basic needs part of the check by another hundred. The total check for a single person on OW is less than $600 in total, and ODSP (disability) about $1000 of that $560 is suppose to be your total shelter costs!
Check the rental ads, there are no places for less than $850! My mortgage and taxes are way under that but the PUC has gone up so much, to almost another mortgage payment, that now I'm going to have to sell .... to go where???
Waiting lists for geared to income (RGI) housing is 1 to 2 years for a single apartment... I'm not going to be able to last that long with no food for me or my 2 cats and a dog I rescued.
6% off my insurance would be a joke with the increase in PUC rates over the last few years! (70% in the last year??? for me!!)
Yeah thanks Liberals! Between that and your scandals no way are you getting my vote!

I don't know where they get their information. Maybe they should ask those of us who actually pay for car insurance. I have no claims and no tickets but they still wanted another increase this year just like every other year. I'll be expecting my cheque in the mail Mr. Orazietti. Maybe the liberal party took my 6% but I know I never got mine.
