Tuesday, May 13, 2014   by: Staff

On May 12, 2014 at approximately 8 p.m. Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police officers were conducting traffic control on the Mile Hill in Aweres Township for a disabled tractor trailer unit.

One of the officers conducting traffic control in the southbound lane observed a white Toyota car traveling northbound at a high rate of speed.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle then continued northbound swerving in and out of traffic forcing several oncoming vehicles off the roadway.

The vehicle then pulled over to the shoulder of the road south of Mahler Road in Fenwick Township.

As a result of further investigation, twenty-eight year old Jennifer McMillan of Grace Street, Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Fail to Stop for Police; Driving while ability impaired by alcohol; Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol, Theft of property over $5000; Possession of Property over $5000; Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two counts of Breach of Recognizance all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

"Drive it like you stole it" is just supposed to be an expression.

There are other options than driving yourself now!

That Driverseat company is one that comes to mind if you need your vehicle home that badly.

Wake up people!

What really surprises me is that it seems many of the impaired driving charges I see on here are young women.

Not to sound sexist, but it was repeatedly crammed into my head that young women drivers are supposedly much safer and more responsible.

I didn't read the part that the car was!

You go to church i bet ....
Stevie-E 5/13/2014 3:27:03 PM Report

I am not sure I get your comment. Actually, I don't go to church as often as I like...or should

I would never get in a vehicle under the influence and jeopardize the lives of others as well as my own. What's even more disturbing is that she stole a vehicle and then drove drunk. I don't have time for clowns like this in this city. People like that are a cancer to society.

Do you have kids? Do you not think that people should be upset?? I should hope so!

Have you had anyone close to you hit by a drunk driver ...?? I hope not..!

Don't drink and drive... You might spill your drink... Consider all the pot-holes you have to dodge in this city also.

Just ask yourself; "is it worth getting a stain on my seat for this?".
blackspruce 5/13/2014 10:05:13 PM Report

Glad the police were able to catch her before she did hurt anyone. It is sad to hear of so many impaired drivers out there. How many young people have died unnecessarily due to impaired drivers here in the Sault and Sudbury? Sad
Too much! 5/14/2014 12:17:34 AM Report

My husband was the last person to see this woman come speeding towards him before she finally pulled over. She's damn lucky. I hope that justice will be served.
soowat 5/14/2014 12:49:17 AM Report

One of the charges was"Possession of Property over $5000"

Holy Moly I'm going to sell my house, car etc to get below the $5,000 line before I get arrested.

niem 5/15/2014 10:10:31 PM Report

could be wrong, but if you sold all your stuff before you got arrested why would it be under the 5000 line? when if you steal more then 5000 dollars worth of stuff it would be a charge of possession of 5000 or more... its not because she owened that and got chargerd for possession over 5000. i know its hard to understand but thats how i could word it
