Andrea to blame for this costly provincial election, says David O

NEWS RELEASE

DAVID ORAZIETTI, MPP

**************************
Andrea Horwath misleads voters, triggers costly provincial election

The provincial NDP have triggered a costly and unnecessary provincial election.

Two key reasons the NDP used to force the election are their claims that the provincial Liberals have not acted to appoint a Financial Accountability Officer or lower auto insurance rates in Ontario.

However in attempting to mislead Ontarians, the NDP failed to mention a few important facts.

“The NDP tout the importance of a provincial Financial Accountability Officer, but they have consistently rejected qualified candidates for the position causing further delay,” said David Orazietti, Sault Ste. Marie Liberal Party candidate. “They claim to support lowering auto insurance rates, but they have no plan to do so and vote against proposals that would save drivers money.”

The NDP blocked the appointment of two qualified candidates to the Financial Accountability Office and demanded a restart of the hiring process.

The hiring of the Financial Accountability Officer is the responsibility of an all-party committee, and the NDP brought the hiring process to a halt in April when they withheld support for any of the applicants.

In refusing to support the 2014 Ontario Budget, the NDP are also jeopardizing the government’s plans to further reduce insurance premiums.

Over the last eight months, auto insurance rates in the province have decreased on average by nearly 6 percent, and Ontario Liberals were on track to reduce premiums by 15 percent by August 2015.

The NDP voted against legislation that would have sent rates even lower.

In fact, a Private Member’s Bill introduced by NDP, MPP Jagmeet Singh would, if passed, increase drivers insurance rates in Sault Ste. Marie by as much as 30 percent by subsidizing auto insurance premiums paid by Toronto drivers.

“The NDP have not been clear with the public with respect to their reasons for calling this election,” said Orazietti. “This is another example of the NDP putting politics ahead of people and making an election issue out of a process that was well underway until they began dragging their feet. Ontarians deserve better than the political games the NDP are playing.”

THIS IS AN OPEN LETTER TO DAVID ORAZIETTI

DAVID, would YOU consider putting forth a motion to have a 'recall' method put in place for the election AFTER this one because it is obviously too late to have one for this election coming up? I ask this because I firmly believe that the voters are getting sick and tired of all of the broken promises by ALL parties and it is time to give the voters in this Province ( and Country ) the right to fire any person who breaks their promises (contract) with us, the voters.

I know you read the SooToday to get an idea of what is happening in this area so please do not insult my intelligence by stating that you do not read these posts.

As always, the views of others may differ but are always welcomed :)

OrlandoFlorida 5/12/2014 10:19:40 AM Report

So the Liberals blame someone else for the election, ignoring the fact that the people of Ontario have been calling for an election because of the Liberal scandals and blatant waste of taxpayers money. Very sad. David I hope you are simply playing politics and don't actually believe what you are saying, if not you are complete FOOL.

This blurb by David O is simply the Liberal propaganda machine at work. Does anyone truly believe David O feels the way his "letter: comes across? I am sure he has been instructed by "head office" to put this out. If he truly feels that way then he is short a couple of steps on the staircase.

So David as you can see we here in Sault Ste Marie are not buying what you are saying to us. How about answering us honestly , the taxpayer on all the scandals that your party is connected to. You and your party owns these scandals. You can not blame Mike Harris or Bob Rae. Why can you not make a press release about all the scandals that I have listed. And then give us an explanation of why should we vote Liberal ? Your clueless attitude frustrates me.

Sam C 5/12/2014 10:43:22 AM Report

Whether or not you like Orazietti, Wynne, or the Liberals; whether or not you think there should have been an election called we'll before this, there is no denying what David O and the Liberals are saying: Horwath forced this election.

Not so much because she and the NDP would not support the budget, but because they -- and frankly, Hudak and the Conservative -- displayed no interest in, nor made any attempt to work WITH the Liberals to resolve any of their outstanding issues.
right wing 5/12/2014 10:43:40 AM Report

David O did a lot for the Sault, that cannot be denied.
The Liberals should have been tossed that last time but Ontario decided to give McGuinty another round....that one has always puzzled me.
Folks talk about Hudak not having "likeability"....McGuinty was the smuggest, most arrogant politician I ever knew.
I shall as I always do, vote conservative.
We will see if Ontario has learned anything about the Liberals...if not then this province deserves everything it gets and does not get...I'm sure you can figure out what that means.
We can all enjoy the 45% hydro increases over the next five years.

...and scottstewy, good work on the list of Liberal screw ups you provided.

agent_zoey 5/12/2014 10:47:48 AM Report

Also, what about all of the OLG Lottery jobs that will be gone after modernization is complete. Selling off Ontarios "pot of gold" to help help the private sector. Talk about Corporate Welfare.

Why does'nt David Orazetti talk about all of the jobs that he lost at ST Marys Paper. He handed out 40 million dollars to that place and all they did was pocket the money. 450 jobs gone. Great over sight there.
right wing 5/12/2014 10:48:33 AM Report

The conservatives are far too extreme...take a look at the msg boards in here on a day to day and you will quickly find that out.

If you want proof the liberals have been buying votes by increasing the size of the civil service and caving to union demands read no further then the comments here. Unless you are a complete imbecile you must realize that model is unsustainable. You can’t have a Country or Province for that matter in which the majority of the population works for the government. Socialism was proven to be a failure look at the “FORMER” Soviet Union.

Eventually the house of cards will collapse (it’s already having stability issues) and someone is going to be left holding the bill. I can assure you it won’t be your MPP he/she will laugh all the way to the bank with he/she lucrative pension after a couple of years work. If you have kids they will be the ones paying for this crap as well as their kids. That’s assuming they don’t flee the province and force you all to work into your 80’s to pay for your own stupidity.

$90 million for an election and $1 billion for not a gas plant?!! value in my book!!!!
OrlandoFlorida 5/12/2014 11:45:54 AM Report

@ Truck

Well the Liberals plan for the OLG is to sell it off, except for a handful of highly paid executives. For Sault Ste Marie that means 500 jobs lost to Toronto, or perhaps the USA or England depending on which company gets the money making golden goose. The Liberal plan for the OLG is already happening, and David O has been a willing participant in the selloff of OLG despite what he says. Only an idiot would sell off a 2 Billion net profit business for a promise, a mere promise of increased sales. Several US states did just that and guess what, those states now earn far less than they did when it was run and owned by the government. Google Illinois State Lottery.
SEO 5/12/2014 12:11:29 PM Report

David Orazetti has represented the Sault well and the NDP when they were given a mandate to rule the last time really screwed this province up Remember Ray Days the NDP way of taking back money they promised in the election. Andrea Horwath did not even try to work with the liberals on the last budget..shame on her for forcing an expensive election and the Conservative leader is a close friend of Rob Ford...Here is his plan..Wow The plan will, according to Hudak, affect 100,000 civil servants except police, nurses and doctors doing "vital work."

And all programs and services will be "on the table" including education.

"It will mean fewer teachers and their assistants," said Hudak who some months ago made it clear that as premier, there would be "pink slips" for 10,000 education assistants.Wow we really have a choice..The only choice is to give Kathleen Wynne a chance she has been doing a good job of cleaning up after Dalton McGuinty. His mistakes were not her fault and the province has been moving forward under her.

is as follows ...

@scottstewy your list really showed what the McGINTY government did to this Province.

That being said, WYNNE is NOT Mcginty and should be given a chance to show this. HUDAK is bound and bent that he will gut union contracts ( which will of course, cause more chaos in this Province ). HUDAK says that he will NOT touch certain sectors but that is 100% BS for damned sure!!

My spouse is a nurse at the SAH and her wages were frozen for the past 3 years. She paid her part in helping to reduce the deficit in this Province. When her contract comes up for renewal in October of this year, many of these hard working nurses have been told to ' not expect any raises for the next three years' or words to that effect. This means that my spouse will now have to go a total of six years without a raise. In addition to all of that frustration, then HUDAK will try to gut the contract that is gotten and she will end up losing some of the benefits as well. This is totally ridiculous no matter how you look at it. HUDAK MUST NOT BE ELECTED or this Province will see all of the same fighting it witnessed when Mike Harris tried the same tactics years ago.

As for blaming the NDP, at least they had the decency to take a look at the budget ( which by the way was NOT a bad budget considering everything that has been going on lately ) but of course HUDAK would not even do that. He is a power hungry little tyrant who is on some sort of power trip and he can not wait to bring chaos to this Province!

There are some, including myself, who do not like what has happened during the McGinty years. It must be said however that blaming WYNNE for McGINTY's mistakes is like blaming the mailman because the plumber did not fix your plumbing correctly.

If this post offends anyone, I apologize but like everyone else on here, I am entitled to my opinion.

Sault Ste. Marie Voters PLEASE look at the people we have to vote for in our riding.

A retired firefighter. Well intentioned but lacking experience.

A whiny teacher who jumped on a fascist wagon and showed us how to spend money with no restraint.

A seasoned CEO of a University with a Phd. and vast experience dealing with government funding.
Celia Ross is our BEST contender with impeccable credentials.

Which candidate has the experience, education and personality to sit in the legislature on a professional level. Treat all people, companies and groups equally and without arrogance? Build and spend for true long term growth.

AND

Bob Rae and his Ray-Days cannot be used against the NDP in this day and age. Not if your a thinking person.

LAST

Just because David 'O' spent money like it was his god given right, does not make him our best candidate. Recall his "assistance" to St. Mary's Paper..!! This was a blatant example of modern fascism; using government funds to make a few business people garner more wealth. This escapade cost many hard working people their pension that was lost in the shuffle. Albeit these poor pensioners did get pennies on the dollar.

Sault Ste. Marie must not continue this road of government monies being dished out to a select few!

Do not put Davy 'O' back in because he has thrown monies around. Fiscal responsibility is needed and expected. Understand that the current debt from this Liberal government is massive and will require shrewd management to pay it all back.

WAKE UP FOLKS... CLOSE THE BACK DOOR.!!

Get your heads out of the sand the gap between the rich and poor is widening everyday and with lower paying jobs the economy will go for an s--t because people can't spend without income and will have no power to access credit with no ability to pay back. You will also pay through the nose for your health care/auto insurance and anything else that you need on a daily basis. So go ahead vote PC I hope it bites you were the sun don't shine.

Regardless of who wins in the upcoming election in this Province, ALL of us LOSE!

The best solution ( although it is too late for this election ) is some sort of recall method put into place so we can FIRE those who steal our vote. Have you ever wondered why NONE of the political parties have ever considered such a thing as a recall method in the past? I believe it is because they would then have to do something totally unique during all of these election campaigns and that would be to ' tell the truth when they are making all of these false promises '.

If these political wannabees can make false claims and have us sign a contract with them ( meaning vote for them ), why should we not have the right to FIRE them if they break that contract? It seems to me that this would be 'breach of contract' if they failed to keep ALL of the promises made during an election campaign and it would curb some of these liars from making these false promises. I further believe that this would be a win-win situation for all of the voters in this Province regardless of who we vote for in these elections.
